Christmas decoration time is almost here. Thought we might share some quick and easy craft ideas. Haven't made one in years, but the Cinnamon Broom Reindeer is ideal for a door hang. Have an idea-- please share..............

Supplies:
  • cinnamon broom (Can be found at craft stores and sometimes grocery stores)
  • ribbon (I used traditional ribbon, but you could make this more updated with some polka-dot or chevron printed ribbon)
  • large red pom pom
  • googly eyes or two large buttons
  • Embellishments such as holly or pine sprays
Directions:

1. Separate the top part of the broom (the bristles) . Secure the top part of the broom with ribbon.
IMG_9035.JPG

2. Glue the eyes and nose towards the bottom of the bristles.

3. Add ribbon below the nose where the bristles gather.

4. To make the bows glue ribbon into a circle. Then add some glue in the middle and fold over.

To do multiple bows stack them on top of each other slightly staggering them.

5. Add the bows and embellishments as much as your heart desires!

The quilt for SIL is finished but I don't have a pic today to share as I just finished it this AM before work. Two more sets of towels finished and off my to do list and will be on their way to my aunt (hopefully) tomorrow or Thursday with the ones I'd woven earlier so she'll have all 6 in plenty of time for Christmas. The same pattern was used for both sets but look very different (at least to me) because of the variegated yarn that was used for the green ones.

This was so confusing to me. On another forum, people shorten my username to SL or SIL. I thought I was gett8ng a quilt and didn’t know why. Lol

In my defence, I was supposed to be allowed to sleep in this morning. But at 5 my son woke me up to kill a spider in the bathroom. Stupid thing was camouflaging itself, and at 5 in the morning I can’t see much of anything. And, while I do realize how that sounds, DS is seeing two doctors for anxiety. And spiders are one of his triggers, so he did the right thing in waking me up.

Ms Mod, those towels are lovely.

;-D Sorry for the confusion. In this case, it's my son-in-law who will be getting the quilt. It's one my daughter had started years ago and I finished so it will be from both of us.

Must have been the morning for no sleep although I can't blame any spiders. Was awake at 4 AM and don't think I ever really got back to sleep and it's catching up to me now. Figures it was the night I'd stayed up until nearly 11:30 which is not like me to be up that late. Hope you'll be able to make up for your lack of sleep tonight and no more spiders!

They have table top models for both 4 shaft and rigid heddle looms that you can store away when you're not using them. The one I have (a rigid heddle) came like that and I bought a stand later. The 4 shaft are a lot pricier than the rigid heddle but you can still do a lot with the rigid heddles. Check them out and if you have any questions, let me know. :smile2:

Many years ago I became fascinated by card weaving/tablet weaving. The fascination didn't last long. Keeping track of which way you need to turn the cards next was not much fun. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle just to make a tie belt nobody would ever wear lol.

Probably no huge surprise that I have a set of those but still haven't given it a try. I looked at the cards and the book on how to do it and decided I wasn't ready when I realized my eyes were glazing over. It's still on my to do (learn) list. :smile2:

The one I've thought about for a long time but still resisted is pottery. Just too big an investment for the equipment and there's nowhere around here to go to do it that I'm aware of. If I do find one, though, that could be next. :smile2:

That looks alot like the friendship bracelets I used to do in high school. We did them by hand. Can't imagine trying to do it with cards.;-D

Cake decorating may not technically be a craft as much as it is a skill and I'm not the one who did this, but I'm proud of my daughter for taking it on. She was quoted $4-500!! :icon_eek: to do a birthday cake for my granddaughter like a picture she found so she decided to teach herself. She still had the bakery make the cake itself and then took the decorations to them to be put on the cake. Except for the bigger white and yellow flowers on the second level, she made all the other decorations. The bakery was so impressed they put it on their Facebook page for their cakes of the week.
