So pretty. I'm just flabbergasted you could produce that so quickly!
Thanks! Going back to what I'd said earlier, I'm still learning new techniques that require practice. I tried a new cast on technique for the second one and it took me quite a few times watching the video to finally figure out how to do it. Was almost at the point of saying fuhgeddaboudit and doing it the old way but my stubborn streak kicked in. It does make a nicer edge so will use it again (and probably have to watch the how to video again ) for other projects. You might be able to see the difference in the side by side picture.

I did get a little extra practice doing the new technique as I'd cast on the required stitches and was about to join them to start knitting the hat and realized I'd started with the wrong color so had to rip it out and start all over again.

Oh man. I would be so discouraged to have to rip stuff out.

Amazing what a difference color makes. These are exactly the same pattern but look so much different.

That's it exactly. It needed more contrast. You really can't even tell in the first one that that middle section background is gray and a light blue because they blended together.

I love both, but the new one does pop! I finally get what you meant about the colors blending. I had no clue that there was a stripe in the middle of the top of the first one!;-D

Well... I guess somebody has to like the colors in the first hat more so than the second hat so I guess it's going to be me lol. The colors in the second hat go well with jeans :)

My Grandmother taught me how to cast on. It gives a more stable base than the common method. I don't think I can explain it though. You wrap the yarn behind your thumb and forefinger and hold the the rest between your other fingers and your palm. Then you place the knitting needle over the top yarn and the next steps are what I can't explain lol.

I'd always done that slingshot method (or at least the first part of it) for the casting on but this new method adds another bit to the end of it so you have to unwrap the yarn from your thumb and catch the yarn in the stitch before pulling it tight. I'm not explaining it well either but I think we're on the same page. ;-D
