My cousin picked up the flower I made Monday night; too lazy to look back to find the post # where I first mentioned it. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Your flower is gorgeous and reminds me of a dish my Mom gave me (because of the cornucopia shape):

I am not sure what you are supposed to do with it - I can see putting candy or fruit in the bottom but I wonder if the three horns are actually flower vases?

Why not? Seems like you could use it for either although getting the candy out might be tricky with the fluting.

Quilting question.......what's the difference between charm squares and stackers, and does it matter if I mix fabric types?
Charm squares are 5" but I've never heard the term stackers so would have to have some context for that one.

As for mixing fabric types, what you'll need to think about is how they will wash and/or make sure to pre-wash all your fabrics first so that any shrinkage will happen before you start cutting/sewing your quilt.

I do believe stackers are just another name for pre cut fabrics. Whatever the size. Charms, layers, mini charms, layer cakes, jelly rolls, hexagons. Not sure about that. Stackers might just be charm size or layer cake size. Which are 10 inch.

You can mix fabrics, but you might look at what you are putting together. If you prewash everything, you shouldn't have a problem. Some materials shrink different than others and that can really pull and pucker a quilt top or cause tension if it is backing fabric. Just depends on the fabric you want to use. Some fabrics you don't have to worry about prewashing when mixing.

Many quilters don't prewash fabrics, (I don't) and after quilting and washing, it does give a more textured look to the quilt.

I don't pre-wash either but rarely use anything other than cotton for piecing and backing. I might pre-wash if I have a color I think might bleed (reds are the worst) but do a patch test first to see if it's necessary. If it looks like it's going to bleed, washing it separately with Synthrapol or Retayne will stop that or there's always the 1 cup vinegar or 1/2 cup of salt in the rinse methods if you don't have either of those. I've never tried those color catching sheets so don't know how well they work.
