Thanks for the info, Y'all. The stackers say they're 5'', so I'll assume that different companies have different names.
I was thinking of mixing cottons with denim, but I haven't thought about the shrinkage factor.
Then again, if I rip the arse our of many more pair of jeans, I'll have enough denim to make an entire quilt!

Isn't denim a cotton fabric?

If it's new denim, you should probably do a patch test to make sure it isn't going to bleed. They don't use indigo to dye denim these days but better safe than sorry especially if there are any light colors mixed in. If you're re-purposing old denim, shouldn't be a problem and no need to pre-wash.

It is, but it's a heavier textile than a quilting cotton so definitely the weight difference can be challenging to get a nice smooth seam. Quilting Cottons stretch and jeans really don't so sewing can get wonky if the tension is wrong.
Thanks. I thought so. Make sense about weight differences in sewing. And I tend to get a bit wonky myself if tense. :)

Good to know. It's very old denim. I'll wear a pair of jeans until they're ragged.

Took another glass blowing workshop and actually did glass blowing this time. A LOT of hands on assistance with staff but I'm claiming at least part credit for having made the flower vase and bowl in the pic. The color wasn't as saturated as I'd hoped with the vase. I had picked out a dark purple and white but it only shows a tint of the purple. Now I want to make 3 plates with the wavy edges to use as wall displays so there's another workshop in my future, hopefully before I head back east.

Impressive! Dumb question, does it get hot when you make these, and is there any danger of getting burned? I think I would be a little nervous doing that!

Yes, it does get hot as they have the blast ovens going all the time but there are doors on them that they shut when the glass isn't being heated so not a constant heat. If you grab the bar the wrong way, you could get burned but the staff does a good job of making sure that doesn't happen. They do sometimes get burned when they're doing their own glass work, according to the guy who was helping out. It's addictive making things, but don't think I'll ever get to the point that I want to take the more intensive class to do it all myself.
