Hey Flake, your profile says that you're 9, NO OFFENSE, but I truly DOUBT that there's a CHILD PRODIGY moderating this site, how old are you REALLY? :)
I could tell you, but then I would have to Moderate you. :biggrin2:
(I have been visiting the SKMB since 2004, so am coming up for my 10th MB birthday. :) )

So... *coughs* getting back to Insomnia ;)--a great book, excellent characters that I ended up caring for deeply. Also, I'm thankfully not somebody that suffers from actual Insomnia.

YES, THANKFULLY! So how does a person get to be a MODERATOR? :)

Well, first you have to slow down and take your keyboard off Caps Lock :onthego::wink:

But seriously, welcome to SKMB - I was just wondering, when I asked my original question up above...

So to get back to the thread topic, yes, tonight I am suffering from Insomnia. But you could kinda call it a "self inflicted wound" so to speak, as I fell asleep on top of my bed after a hot bath with my hair still wrapped in a towel!

Now it is 1:38 in the morning and I cannot get back to sleep

I really enjoyed the book Insomnia very much. I liked the flow of it and read it right to the end. It caught my attention right from the beginning. I think it's a great book!

This book is really awesome and I am almost done now and I am really excited to get back to the dark tower, im glad i took this break from the DT because i was flying through it and it was nice to read something else and the DT connections were alot of fun and its just awesome how SK links all his books together like that, it really feels like all those books really happened with all the connections!! I also just recently re read IT and the IT connections were alot of fun as well!!! The references are very brief but since i just re read IT just one sentence can bring back an entire scene, its so much fun and i love being able to escape every night with these books!!! I think i need to venture out to another author though because SK is the only author i have ever read..... any suggestions??

Loved, loved, loved this book! The main characters may not resonate with younger readers, but I loved Ralph and Lois. Nice to see older folks depicted as heros.

Personally, I had a couple of years of insomnia on and off...it made me mad, and madder...
I read this while I was sick and had a fever. It probably made the impact of the story stronger, it was my favorite SK book for a long time.

I FELT SIMILARLY WHEN I FIRST STARTED READING IT. IT DEFINITELY HAS A SLOW START, HOWEVER ONCE YOU GET PAST THE BEGINING IT HEATS UP FAST, THERE WERE TIMES THAT I COULD BARELY PUT IT DOWN, AND IT HAS BECOME ONE OF MY FAVORITE READS! IT'S WELL WORTH IT! :)

Very cool.... as soon as i finish Sleepy Hollow, i'll revisit it again.... thanks, Kingsman

Ain't that the truth:clap:.
I think I was only 35 or so (& it was before I became disabled), when I first read Insomnia, so I didn't fully appreciate the older characters.

Fast forward to 52, with many many re-readings of SK's works, plus an interesting bag of life changes, I get it.

Older folks (85+ particularly) are heroes.
I'm fortunate enough to have good friends who are between 86-90.
In Europe, that means they survived the Nazis, survived Occupation, survived the Blitz.
Coped with being refugees & rationing & living amongst rubble.

They're funny, outrageous, mostly don't give a damn.
And we treasure our time together.
Because we know time is short.

I always pictured Jack Lemmon in the role of Ralph. Kind of a nice everyman character. One of the more likeable King characters. I'm a bit surprised at the level of praise for the book, however. I like most any King book and this was no exception but it wasn't close to a favorite. And the abortion theme was tiresome and heavy. I couldn't buy so many folks in the town picking up sides and getting into a row over it. It seemed more like King venting his own views via the plot.

Probably one of my favourite SK novels.

And when I was reading the passage in one of the Dark Tower books about the books King wrote connecting to the Dark Tower, I kept saying "What about bloody Insomnia! Roland and his quest was the basis for that damn book!" And wouldn't you know it.....it is singled out as THE book hah hah.

I don't know why, but I thought of a crazed Ned Flanders as Ed Deepneu, especially how Deepneu was introduced!

Oh, the irony! In my timezone it is 2:30 am, and I'm sitting here, reading "Insomnia". No auras noticed yet, which is nice, I guess. I have to admit that despite lack of enthusiasm about this novel, I really enjoy reading it. Especially with all those references to other King's works.
