Oh no- he didn't just...

Yip, the old flat battery on the phone routine - just when our hero needed it the most the bleep bleep bleep of death.

*Sigh*

And poor old Jerome is having bother trying to contact his family in the auditorium now - by trying to phone them...really !

Do our characters have no thumbs ?

Come on- teenagers=phone=texting always.

Bah that was a lousy bit of story SK -

Anyhoo onto the finale.

Ahh - yeh, guess I do. But I read that scene all to many times in stories these days - I guess if they did text the story would be over.

Same goes for movies - one text and the whole movie arc is saved.

A dying phone is just a lazy way to avoid the problem of contact .

The robot answering service was clever though - we have all been there.
I wouldn't call Mr. King lazy. I think the likelihood is being a victim of age--lol. Not judging; I did it myself. When I wrote my first book, I didn't have a cell phone (and I still hate the stupid things). Using a cell phone in the story didn't even occur to me, and avoiding one was in no way lazy; they just weren't on my radar at all. Of course, my beta readers had a heyday with that one. I had to make major changes to take that tech into account.

In regards to the no service in the auditorium thing — even if Jerome had texted his sister, chances are it wouldn't have gone through in time. That happens all the time. I know when I went to see a Bernie Sanders rally in January I couldn't get service throughout the entire event.

coming from me, a teenager, i manage to missed many calls from friends, mum, dad and other important because not all teenagers focused on their phones all day. Also i'm one of the few teenagers who uses the phone for important stuff (aside for music player actually. because i have Ipad for facebook and i'm too lazy to text people, in fact i never gave my phone number to some of my friends if he/she will text me to nonsense stuff.

Actually, Phone signals in important events are sometimes too low or dead. I once went in the Presidential inaguration and the signal there was totally dead so i cannot text my dad. I went in a new year concert with too many famous local artist involve and i cannot pick up any damn signals there.

Ps. I almost bit my finger when i go back to my phone one time (i left it in my drawing desk at school) and i saw "13 missed calls : Mum"

My thing about it is if the phone call isn't going to go through I don't think the text is either. Even if it sends from Jerome there Is still a chance it doesn't reach his sister or Mother. It isn't unheard of to call. To me, a call is something that is now and puts forth more of an urgency. If I'm texting someone it certainly isn't going to be something I need an answer to now. That's just my take on it.
