I've found that when translating a King novel into a movie...its either a complete miss or hit....no in between. I either hate it...or love it! Keeping my fingers crossed that the Dark Tower is a hit!!
I'm hanging onto the hope that the studio thinks it has a mega hit on its hands as they delayed the release from the original January date (which is when the studios release their loser movies) and changed it to July to cash in on a long summer stay in the theaters.

Well, I finally caught this on TV the other night. What can I say? Well, actually, what I can say is that my first thought was 'Shoot the scriptwriter!', then when I checked back to see who it was I had a rather nasty shock (I usually pay attention to opening credits, but my gf was waffling to me about something at the time so all my attention wasn't on the screen).
It's not that it was all bad. The first third was OK. It just seemed to fall apart slowly from there, somehow.
But the worst part for me was the ending. I just couldn't get past it. It just smacked of not really knowing how to end it, but wanting to end it on an unexpected note. That clearly wasn't going to be the case with Clay turning suicide bomber - and I don't know but I'm guessing there might have been some studio resistance to that - but that seemed to be the original ending with the extra bits being tacked on later, either to step around the 'noble sacrifice' bit or to add a (pretty unnecessary and also obvious) 'twist' ending. In any case, whatever the thinking behind it, it didn't work.
It all really just felt like a bit of a waste, especially of the cast (the leads, at least).

So I have waited awhile to reply here. I saw this as a fail movie from the get go. Even mentioned it would come out best as a new gen game. (Possible spoiler warning), My largest disappointment was the lack of storyline. Something as simple as adding the raggedy man's resolve to
Alice's death
in the book, could have gone a long way towards the movie. Instead it turned out as a simpletons movie with an all-star cast. Sad really.

I added the spoiler for you. Still have not seen this. I'd like to but I am armed with a huge bag of doubt...

Well Ter-bear, I think we all are. The reviews I read last month had me so mad, I was literarily seein' snakes!

'Cell' is certainly not King's finest novel, but there were good things in it. And as a film it had possibilities. Did these people just junk it?! But if we're on this board we're obviously completists. Our duty is clear. When it goes on netfliks for free or is uploaded illegally on dailymotion (it would not survive on youtube), we'll see it. You may yell "I'll never get those 2 hrs back!", but oh, well. Just deal with it, don't be some babies!

The very fact that John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson deemed it worthy to appear in, gives it a glimmer of hope. Although, if you were filming your cat being litter-box trained, and you managed to dig up Sam Jackson's number and asked him to appear in it, and he had an afternoon free, he'd probably say yes. The man turns down nothing. Cusack however, has tended to be quite picky. He has an estimable track record. If only 'Cell' has one, just one, scene this good ...

Narcisse Manitoba (close to my city of Winnipeg) - We have visited the Narcisse snake dens for a class trip when my son was much younger.
I deleted the snake picture as I put it behind a spoiler, and you went ahead and posted it again. I couldn't get it to stay behind a spoiler in your post, so if you want to post it again, behind a spoiler, feel free.

It was actually a video - but since I see that Ms. Mod (Moderator happens to be logged in, I will spare her the details.

I did not do it to be a little pr*ck or something like that - I forgot how much some people dislike snakes or have a fear of snakes - sorry about that.

No worries. It just goes to reason if I put something in a spoiler in someone's post and then tell them why I did it, that I would expect others would put their subsequent snake pictures (or whatever the picture) behind spoilers.

Yours could've stayed, but for some reason, I could get it to stay behind a spoiler!

I put your snake picture behind a spoiler. We have some people on here who hate snakes!

Oh c'mon!!! These are people who have read "IT" and can't tolerate a tiny harmless animated gif of squirming snakes?! Folks, they're not gonna jump out of the monitor! (Ahhh!!!!! They're in my lap!! They're in my lap!!! Somebody shoot me!!!)

Me, I hate rats with a passion! A lot more that snakes. G-d, those disease carrying, red eyed, snarling, little flea-ridden gray bags full of hate freak me out.

The weird way they walk ... and the tails! Plus they're just mean as hell! But still I managed to read Graveyard Shift! And I watched the movie. Did they get me over my fear of rats? Of course not! They may have increased it! But try and find a way to conquer your fear. Maybe go to Toys-R-Us, dump a bunch of them buckets of rubber snakes on the floor and roll around in them! Of course you'll be escorted out and banned from Toy-R-Us for life, but it's less about restraining orders than it is about your personal growth. Several years back, the last time I had a serious rat nightmare, I remember it like it was yesterday. Still half asleep I staggered from my marriage bed, found our kitty Malachi (she thinks he's named after the prophet, but for me it's always been 'Children of the Corn'), and getting back in bed with what in my addled state I considered a furry chunk of 'rat kryptonite', pathetically happy and still half zonked, I muttered words to the effect, "You wanna dance rats? Let's dance ... snooore." It worked for me! Now here's the giant rat from 'Graveyard Shift' having some damn birthday cake. Look! He's enjoying it!

Again sorry if I upset anyone - we did go to Narcisse Manitoba a few years ago to see the garter snakes with my son's class - he was maybe 12 or so at the time. It was cool to see the kids handling the snakes and showing no fear

Apparently our main moderator - Ms. Mod or Marsha, has a real fear of snakes, so it would be out of respect for her :a24::biggrin2:
