V The Hierophant, Barry Dorgan.

Upright: Religion, group identification, conformity, tradition, beliefs.
Reversed: Restriction, challenging the status quo.

Thanks for posting, they are incredible. You are so talented! The North Sea backdrop brought
back a lot of good memories, thank you.

Thanks for your comments. I was lucky to be able to use that great photograph as the background for that picture.

From "The Stand", Jenny Engstrom and Whitney Horgan.

And Randall Flagg.

Stephen%2BKing%2527s%2BThe%2BStand%2B-%2BWhitney%2BHorgan%2B%25280001%2529.jpg

VI The Lovers, Jenny Engstrom and Whitney Horgan.

Upright: Love, union, relationships, values alignment, choices.
Reversed: Disharmony, imbalance, misalignment of values.

Since this is the first card for which I did not have an exact scene from the novel, I ended up following the Tarot card's design a little more closely. This allowed me to include the Red Eye of Sauron Randall Flagg.

I know Jenny is explicitly presented as a strong and likeable character, and she works in the construction team. However, I took the chance to present Whitney's and her previous jobs, thinking that she could use that side of her for him in private, so that is why she got to be the character I used for eye candy. I would prefer to use men for this, but I must strive for equality so she got to represent the female eye candy. At least they are not nude like in the Tarot design (way more fun to have a couple of stereotypical nightclub dancer and a cook, since I never get to draw any of these). Besides, being sexy has never stopped anyone from being strong.

From "The Stand", Dayna Jurgens and Randall Flagg.

Stephen%2BKing%2527s%2BThe%2BStand%2B-%2BDayna%2BJurgens%2B%25280002%2529.jpg

VIII Strength, Dayna Jurgens.

Upright: Strength, courage, patience, control, compassion.
Reversed: Weakness, self-doubt, lack of self-discipline.

And some people still say The Stand is sexist. Yeah, Frannie seems to think only abut being a mother, being Harold's love interest and being Stu's mate, but she even thinks about it in context of the situation: if humanity is in this type of crisis, everyone's role is affected and goes back to what is best for survival as a species; otherwise, she shows to be her own woman an takes her own decisions.

And then there's Dayna, who is the only one who gets to confront the big evil face to face in a way none of the male heroes ever do (most are held captive and chained, while the main male protagonist does not even reach the bad guy's city). From the moment I got the idea for this deck and started discovering which card would fit each character, this is a card I was very hyped for. This is the equivalent to the big battle between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in Empire (except for the fact Randall cheats). This is Perseus versus Medusa in Clash of the Titans. This is the Ghostbusters versus Gozer.

If they ever do another adaptation of this novel, I wish Dayna gets top billing and is shown as a more prominent hero.

On a side note, the next time a guy from Mr. King's books is wearing a paisley shirt, I will draw him shirtless instead. Those things are hard to draw correctly!

From "The Stand", Glen Bateman.

Stephen%2BKing%2527s%2BThe%2BStand%2B-%2BGlen%2BBateman%2B%25280001%2529.jpg

IX The Hermit, Glen Bateman.

Upright: Soul-searching, introspection, being alone, inner guidance.
Reversed: Isolation, loneliness, withdrawal.

Did we ever learn exactly how good Glen was at his painting? Was it something he thought would be good to try now that he may be the only human left alive or was it something he had practiced before?

I'm glad you like them.

I do not think I will ever print and sell them, but people are free to print their own copies.

The full size versions can be found on that gallery. Actually, if someone prints the whole set once it is finished, I would like to see photographs of how they look as a real deck. :D

I went to the link and downloaded the first 10. I am going to ask my daughter Sarah how to get this done. She is a journalist and her husband was a print journalist. Maybe they can help.

Stephen%2BKing%2527s%2BThe%2BStand%2B-%2BLeo%2BRockway%2B%25280004%2529.jpg

X Wheel of Fortune, Joe.

I had fun drawing this one, and I liked the final result. Perhaps it is because I am more used to drawing Leo than any of the previous guys (except for Trashy, but he was different enough to almost be a never-before-drawn character).

Please make sure you redownload Mother Abagail. I added her specs.

I forgot to add the meaning of the Wheel of Fortune card. Here they are:

Upright: Good luck, karma, life cycles, destiny, a turning point.
Reversed: Bad luck, negative external forces, out of control.

I agree. Always loved Dayna due to her character and because her name is pronounced like mine.

That's true! If anyone would be able to see the kind of hero she is it would be you.

From "The Stand", Judge Farris.

Stephen%2BKing%2527s%2BThe%2BStand%2B-%2BRichard%2BFarris%2B%25280001%2529.jpg

XI Justice, Judge Farris.

Upright: Justice, fairness, truth, cause and effect, law.
Reversed: Unfairness, lack of accountability, dishonesty.

Alexandra M and everyone else who is interested, in the tarot gallery, each picture's page has a "download" button at the right of the page. You can get a slightly larger image if you click there. The image at the page has a width of 900, and the downloadable image is 960. It is not that much bigger, but it's there in case people want it.
