    GNTLGNT The idiot is IN

....when I first saw this headline, I imagined him just stepping into traffic, and folks trying to figure a way around HIM....

There's no doubt he's going to try to figure out a way around it.

    This made me absolutely furious:

In one instance involving an emergency vehicle, a 91-year-old woman lay unconscious waiting for paramedics and later died, according to a Bergen Record report.

It's possible the woman may have died anyway, but it's also possible she wouldn't had the emergency vehicles not been delayed.

And then to see this quote from an email exchange between those behind the lane closures:

The communications showed an unattributed observation to Sokolich’s plea for help on the second day of the closings: “Is it wrong that I’m smiling?”

This commentary speaks to the trend with politicians on both national and state levels, i.e. that it's not about the people who they are supposed to be representing, it's about attaining the office and its benefits (once elected for the politician) at all costs. Clearly those behind this had no thought to the repercussions of their actions beyond retaliation for someone they perceived as a political enemy.

Does moving up in the world of politics turn you into a blood-thirsty shark? Why would this even cross someone's mind to try and pull a stunt like this? This is wrong on so many levels you need charts and graphs to map it out. Setting aside the fact if Christie was or was not involved, why would this seem a plausible thing from anyone's perspective? I just don't get that, I mean I do get it, humans suck for the most part, that's a given, but in the era of social media, why the hell would you text about it? Anyone ever heard of "black ops" or "clandestine" operation? Why would you put anything out on social media. How dumb is that?

1st Christie Aide: " Hey, I've got a great idea to get back at that guy in Fort Lee!"

    2nd Aide: "Yeah? What's that?"

Ist Aide: "Lets screw around with the traffic on the GWB for a couple of days!!"

2nd Aide: "Don't you think that might be dangerous?"

!st Aide: "Who cares, they'll just make jokes about our boss's weight anyway!!"

A New Jersey politician using an office for payback -- I think things like this only happen in NJ on days that end in "y."

If it’s outrage over disrupting NYC traffic that gets our goat, we should also look at what they do to traffic every time a President of the United States visits NYC. I’ve been involved in several, and it’s absolutely horrendous. Anyone know of any statistics available about deaths attributed to one of these events?

I think there's a huge difference between traffic delays caused for legitimate reasons and those for political payback no matter where they are.

i'm being lazy. I don't want to read the article. Can someone tell me exactly how they messed with traffic? Was it a Smokey and the Bandit parade of cars? A Big Smokey Red 22?

"But the email and text messages between Christie’s deputy chief of staff and the governor’s appointees to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey show a seemingly deliberate effort to create traffic gridlock by shutting Fort Lee’s access to the George Washington Bridge after its mayor refused to endorse Christie for re-election."

I had to read that. The first paragraph anyway. So, they closed lanes I see. But how? Did they send out a construction crew or were orange cones set up ?

Like taking in a Broadway show?

How many lives have the IRS destroyed when they have been used politically? Does this even compare?

If playing around like this caused a death, it's at the very least involuntary manslaughter. I'd pursue it if it was my loved one. I'd be screeching from every venue I could.

Yup orange cones. Toll booths blocked.......

"Two of three on-ramps to the bridge were closed during the morning rush from Sept. 9 to 12 — the first days of the new school year — causing chaotic, hours-long backups on the streets of Fort Lee.

The delays were aimed squarely at Sokolich, who snubbed Christie’s request for a bipartisan endorsement."
