Anyone watching the Cobra Kai series on YouTube?

It picks up the story of Johnny Lawrence, the head Cobra Kai punk, from the first Karate Kid movie 34 years later.

It's pretty entertaining. It manages to make you feel bad for Mr. Lawrence and shows what can happen if one never lets go of past hurts and can't move beyond past failures.

The script gets flipped a bit between Daniel and Johnny.

I dug it.

I watched the first two episodes and thought the writers did a good job with pushing the story forward by flipping the script with the viewer's sympathies residing with Johnny Lawrence. Daniel's story, I'm guessing, will be antagonistic to Johnny but he won't necessarily be the bully. It's funny and has dribbles of '80s nostalgia, and the unapologetic views of fighting and survival (which, in todays world, some might call "toxic masculinity") are a breath of fresh air. It could have been much worse so I'm pleasantly surprised. By the end of season one I think the writers will advocate for an anti-bullying message and resolving differences non-violently but, c'mon, this is The Karate Kid!
I haven't seen that first movie since the late '80s.

I liked the first two episodes, didn't know you had to sign up for YouTube Red to get the whole season. I liked all the 80's references and Johnny's sideways glances when he hears a millennial comparison cracked me up during both episodes. Overall, I thought both episodes were pretty good, may end up subscribing to see the rest of the season.

They were doing one month free sign up. I did that and then cancelled when I finished watching.
