Ah! I see the light! lol Sorry, I hope I didn't come off as rude, I was just confused..as stated haha. Didn't realize this post was 2 years old! I just read CK between yesterday and today and I figured I'd hop on the forum and see if there were any interesting discussions going on :)
I started recording Haven recently which is loosely based on The Colorado Kid (just Season 1 - I think it was good at first but then started to get crazy).

p.s. No offense taken! :thumbs_up::)

Hello! I am jumping in on an older thread, but I think the question about the cover opens another question about cover art and readership. I just finished CK (another awesome read). As posts on this thread have noted, the gorgeous cover art for CK and King's other Hard Case Crime publication, Joyland, deviate from the usual King cover aesthetic. I would be interested to know if anyone who had never read King before found him through the "Choose a Book by its Cover" method with CK. In general it seems like publishing with Hard Case Crime would have resulted in some new fans from the hardboiled genre.

Also, Dear Constant Reader, count me in for a discussion of CK book!

...not with King, but I stumbled upon some other very good writers because the covers sucked me in...

Interesting. To be honest, I have never paid much attention to book covers. Back in jr. high when I read a lot of Christopher Pike (SK training wheels haha!) I always picked the one I'd check out of the library by the cover. But other than that it doesn't really influence my choices. I was quite surprised to see such a reaction on the boards about the cover work. Especially in the day and age of the e-reader. (Footnote: I always prefer the actual hard copy of a book versus electronic, but occasionally I do use Scribd.com when I am in a pinch and do not have my current selection with me).

Would you be willing to give any examples of cover art that led to good authors? I know I've found some good authors based on the cover, but can't think of any off the top of my head, and am always looking for good recommendations.
Although, I can think of some pretty darn awful examples of cover art for some great books. Penguin Australia's re-design of Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite egregious examples: Breakfast At Tiffany's by Truman Capote
Ahhh, the pull quote alone! Did the publisher even read the novella, or did they just pop in the '61 film!?

Ah, yeah, same with e-readers. While I've definitely employed audiobooks, I can never really get in to e-books. There's something about the material nature of a printed book. However, the library editions of SK I've checked out so far are usually cloth and have had their dust jackets removed. Covers always fascinate me, so I've ended up going down a rabbit hole of SK cover design in my attempt to look up the covers of the books I've checked out.

I also like this cover. There's a bit of William Dobell about the style.

Thank you so much for sharing! I have that Bierce! It's one of the books I display rather than leave on my shelf because I am in love with the cover. I'd never seen the Lovecraft cover before. So wonderful! And, the Koontz is also awesome. I have actually never read Koontz. Is he a must-read for SK fans, or just a must read in general? Is Invasion a good place to start? I didn't he wrote under a pseudonym.
Also, I thought of a cover that got me to read a book. I finally picked up (and read) Tolkein because of this magnificent cover. The illustration looks like Patton Oswalt or Sean Astin doing some serious Bilbo Baggins cosplay.

....The Brothers Hildebrandt did wonderful renderings of Tolkien’s world....as to Koontz, many don’t like him because he can come off preachy and syrupy at times, but overall he’s a hell of a writer, but not one that needs to be read to follow King....he is his own flavor, and if I were you I’d check out his Odd Thomas series or his Frankenstein adaptations to get an idea of what he can do....
