We've recovered from bad economies that are even worse than it is now so that is certainly not worse. Getting a handle on the spread of the virus should be the first priority. The problem with some of the bullet points above is that either we don't already have the resources or that people are just not stepping up to voluntarily do the things that would make it unnecessary for governments to shut things down.

All I know is that I'm willing to do my part but there's a limit, even at my age, for how far I'll go to "take one for the team to save the economy." :glare:
But doing what I recommend will also help "flatten the curve" without destroying the economy.

It took 12 years & A WORLD WAR IN WHICH 75 MILLION PEOPLE DIED to recover from the one worse than we will soon see if we don't get people back to work, IMO.

IF people would actually do it, which is NOT happening to the level necessary to flatten the curve in an amount that will slow this down to the point that people won't just continue to infect others and starting the cycle all over again. THAT is another reason why it is imperative for everyone to shut down temporarily so it won't drag out longer than necessary and not open things back up too soon. Until they come up with a viable vaccine and protocol (not just anecdotal "cures") for treating people, we have to accept that things are not "business as usual" and taking baby steps won't work. We can already see how that worked in other places that thought they could do it half-assed. It didn't.

Hey, you're a grandma. You'd die for the economy, right?
