The letter J, in Spanish, is pronounced like the English H. For example, the Spanish name "Jamie" is pronounced "Hi-mee" (that's the closest I can get, anyway), and 'Jose' is pronounced "Hose-ay". So when Joe said Cujo is mispronunced, he was making a joke about the letter J. Spanish pronunciation of it would be 'Koo-ho' :)
Did I completely mess up this explanation Sigmund , prufrock21 ? Though now that I look at it again, it's closer to "ho-SAY" (still not quite right, but the accents and slightly different sound pronunciations are hard to write in English--lol)

I think you got it.:thumbs_up:

People at school who don't speak Spanish seem to pronounce Jaime as hi-mee. I think that's what they hear the mee. Spanish speakers tend to pronounce it
hi-meh. Non Spanish speakers at work also tend to say Jose as ho-say wher I say it ho-seh.

J's and Y's sometimes screw up people who learn English as a second language.
For example, "Tell the yanitor to paint the room jello" They can say the J and Y sound but they reverse it. And the sh sound is not in the Spanish language so you'll hear, "I have an extra apple, I'll chair with you."
(I think I've told this story before but I'll bore y'all with it again. In grade school I was chosen to be the narrator for Peter Pan play. Yay! But I almost lost it when I couldn't pronouce the word 'chair'. I couldn't hear the 'ch' sound. I kept saying sh-air. So, I'm back ass ward as well. My teacher worked with me for a bit and once I 'heard' it I got it.)

(According to one friend, I also say 'whipped' goofy. Like Stewie in that show. Cool wHip. But,I can't hear it. )

I know how it's supposed to sound, but I don't know how to write it :p My kids went to a Spanish immersion school for many years (wirh Spanish speaking teachers from various countries), and I go to a Catholic church with a high Spanish speaking population (our priest is also Colombian). My husband's cousin in law is Mexican, and named Jamie (that's why I thought of that name--lol).

Sigmund, I'm dating a guy named Jorge and had told my son that I was going out with Jorge tonight. Later, I texted my son to check on him, and cracked up when he texted back, "How are things with Horhay?"

Hey, have you guys tried Halo Top ice cream?

That ice cream is nasty! I took a couple of bites (chocolate) and spit it out. Not even the same texture as ice cream. Left the open container turned sideways in my sink to let it melt and an hour later it was still sitting in the tub. It's like eating spoonfulls of raw protein. Nasty.

Yeah, I didn't like the chocolate either, but the chocolate chip cookie dough is really good. I know it's not like the real stuff but, for fewer calories, it works for me.

Some flavors are better than others. Chocolate chip cookie dough is really good, IMO. Some of the others taste more like that stuff we had in the 70s, called 'ice milk.' kingricefan really likes the chocolate. JK!
I remember ice milk! Not great stuff, but it was cold and sweet :D Have you tried the Dreyer's slow churned ice cream? Half the fat of traditional premium ice cream, but it doesn't taste/mouth feel any different from the full fat kind. You can even get some of them with Splenda (if you like the fake sugar). I eat ice cream so seldomly that I don't care if I get the real thing, but I have bought the slow churned by accident and didn't even notice a difference.

I've never tried it but I will. I just like the cold and sweet every once in a while too. What is your flavor recommendation for the slow churned?

I have sullied HillLover's thread with ice cream. Sorry!

I bought the cookie dough by accident the first time, and it was delicious! We've since tried the mint chip and chocolate, and all are great.
