So I finished The Fifth Heart by Dan Simmons a few days ago. This is the first Simmons book that it took me a while to get through. Maybe it was because of not being familiar with the Sherlock Holmes tales or anything by Henry James either, but some of it was not very readable for me. I did catch some of the 'nods' to the Holmes stories, but I'm sure there were tons in there that just went over my head. I have been trying to get a hardback copy of his 'newest' novel Omega Canyon but with no luck at all. It is available as an e-book on Amazon and the site lists it for sale as a book but it also says it will be 'available in one to two months'. WTH? I can't find it in an actual book store and when I asked about it at B&N I was told that it wouldn't be published as an actual book until January 2020. Well, it was listed on Amazon as being available in January of 2019 towards the end of 2018. I don't know who to contact to find out about this oddity....
kingricefan -- amazon now has it as pre order and this link is the publisher. It leads one tio believe it is not available until Jan. 1, 2020

Thanks for the info. I did go to the publisher's website before and got this same information as what you've posted. I don't want to buy the book unless it's actually available. I am totally confused about what is going on with this title. Amazon doesn't even have a photo of the cover which leads me to believe that it isn't available in actual physical form, only as an e-book. The price on Amazon did drop from the original of $28.00 so I guess they must be selling copies?

I'm friends with Dan on facebook, and he was still writing it as of a month or two ago. If you want a good Holmes pastiche, try out James Lovegrove's Sherlock Holmes series, or his Cthulu casebooks featuring Sherlock. Brilliant, every one.

So, Dan is still writing a book that has been available as an e-book on Amazon for a couple of months? I was told from a manager at B&N that it was available as a download but the actual physical book wouldn't be ready for purchase until January 2020. I don't read e-books (short stories, yes, but not novels) on any type of e-reader so I don't know if this is true or not. Probably not as there are absolutely no reviews posted on Amazon about it. Well, I guess I'll just have to wait until next year to read it. I appreciate your post though! Thank you! :)
