I gotta be honest, I'm a little worried by the direction it has taken. I seen an interview with Idris saying it is a challenge for the viewers/readers to get their heads around these changes, and I get that sometimes its good to embrace changes. But I can't help but think they are taking unnecessary risks with the changes out of some kind of stubbornness. Sure this may be a new level of the Tower, or the next journey after the last, or were the changes made out of convenience, so they could take the easy path to get this done? I've tried to be understanding, and I will give the film a chance, but if the acting is bad and choices come across as ridiculous, its gonna be criticized heavily, considering what the fans really wanted was a faithful retelling of the original story. I recall some people saying before "you're not entitled to get what you want", in terms of a faithful retelling of the original, with characters resembling those we imagine, personally I don't think that attitude helps, and I also think its an excuse for not being able to deliver the creative talent to get this done how it should of been done. So have you seen the leaked trailer? What do you think? I will give it a chance once the film is out, but the trailer could of been better. Getting this done was never going to be an easy task, especially faithfully, and in my opinion it would take a true genius to achieve it. Maybe only a true genius should touch this...

My impression of the trailer was that it will be a very exciting, action-packed film. I think it's a good sign that even in it's unfinished version it already looked so good. Faithful or not, I have a very positive feeling about it - that at least it will be a good film. It is very difficult material to pull off and I think it will at least be worthwhile. I think you will get something that will be a compromise to an extent - but you have that with every adaptation of a book.

Hopefully we'll get the completed trailer soon, which will tell us more.

Yeah will do. I'll try lol I guess I'm 50/50 at the moment. Feel like I have to criticize or they won't get it. I feel mean putting pressure on the developers but this work means a lot to many people, I just hope they understand that. I don't want this to be a Ghostbusters scenario... lol :facepalm_smiley:

Not much we can do at this point - I figure just sit back and wait - I'll have to go check it out online and see what all the hub-bub is about

It's funny - on National Geographic right now there's a program about how smart crows are

I saw the trailer on the day it was leaked. Even with the unfinished effects, it looked pretty good (except for the lame-@ss version of "Behind Blue Eyes" playing over it). But fans of the books will recognise that this is not an adaptation of the first volume - it's got bits and pieces of all the books, save for Wizard and Glass. On a personal note, I'd be lying if I said I didn't grin like a little kid during the quick scene of Roland firing his guns (the sound effects made them crack like thunder) and reciting bits of the Gunslinger's Creed ("I kill with my heart"). For people unfamiliar with the books however, the trailer was just a bunch of random scenes with no indication as to what the story is about.

That being said, the real loser here has to be HBO. With Game of Thrones winding down, they need another breakout hit and should have been all over this when the producers (Ron Howard et al) started shopping around the series. They passed on it, and who knows what might have been? With a long-form television format, we may have gotten a faithful retelling of the books.

Oh yeah, couple more things:

There was a nice shot of a can-toi/Low Man adjusting his crooked jaw back into place. Very subtle effect, very nicely done.

Cool shot of the Tower itself against a blood red sky. Should look pretty impressive once the finished trailer is officially released.

Matt Mc (too lazy to spell his entire surname) seemed to be using his natural accent as The Man in Black. Fun fact: he turned down playing Randall Flagg in the movie adaptation of The Stand to play... The Man in Black here.

I may have come across it after reading about it here. I have to say, I'm not really feeling it based on what I saw. It seems to have the vibe of a big budget, action, "blow 'em up" movie in the vane of Michael Bay. Can't say I'm really buying into the characters/actors as portrayed either. Hopefully I'm wrong and it has more substance than it looks like on the surface but I'm not hopeful.

I wasn't convinced when Walter spoke. Or Roland. Hope they change my mind in the final product. Would be fake of me if I said I was impressed. Some of the city shots looked cool. Did get the feeling of Walter's menacing presence when they spoke of him.
