So glad to hear so many positive reviews. The City is in my TBR pile (I'm sorta saving it for a rainy day, while I catch up on Kings older books that I have yet to read) I've read practically every thing Koontz has in print and am yet to be dissapointed by anything he has written, but IMO the Face (2003), One Door Away from Heaven(2001), From the Corner of His Eye(2000) and False Memory(1999) are the strongest of his books in the last 15 yrs. If the City is as good as those, Happy days.
:haha:
...I concur...and I do believe you'll enjoy it...his sense of humor is what keeps drawing me back...

Just finished "The City" just after reading "Cell". I've been bouncing back and forth between SK & DK lately. If nothing else Dean Koontz is FEARLESS. I wouldn't have the guts to write about a young black jazz piano prodigy growing up in Chicago. I guess Dean really must love jazz. He's a longgggg way from his comfort zone on this one.

PS I think another "Odd Thomas" is about to be released (escaped?).

For me it's a strange dichotomy when it comes to Koontz. From about Lightning to Dark Rivers of the Heart I was riveted to his work. After that IMO, he began to repeat himself, and I felt like I was being preached to. But that is probably more my issue than his. He is undoubtedly a talented wordsmith, and the two main characters in Innocence I really liked, but the last third of the book lost me in it's incredulity. Maybe I'll try The City at some point. But like GNT, I do wish he'd return to Moonlight Bay.

Me three. 15 years is a long time to keep fans hanging for Ride the Storm, considering the first two were published a year apart. He has told fans before that he is halfway through it, but needs certain ideas to stew. At one point he was rumored to meet up with Odd. I cant help but think he is blocked somehow, considering all the series that have followed since.

...yeah, he tends to pound the pulpit a bit-but he's enjoyable enuff-I let it slide in one eye, and out the other....

Koontz could be better than King... if he didn't give up on his novels 100 pages in. It always happens, doesn't it? The beautiful prose and the engaging storyline go bananas towards page 100. Happened with Innocence, The city, By the light of the moon, and some of the odd books, to name a few.

A shame really, but I guess it is hard to keep engaged and motivated for so long being 68.

For me it is most of all the little details that i lack. The details that make the little town or city or whatever the location is seem real instead of some little ghosttown hastily made so we can make an a westernmovie (or in his case a horror book). It makes me lose some interest in the story.

I've noticed a good deal of Koontz discussion in various threads on here lately, so thought it would be good to revive this. :)

Currently reading Odd Hours. I've become very fascinated with Koontz lately--started trying to get all of his books in hardcover. I've also been watching some interviews of his on YouTube and he seems like such a nice guy.

I have a hardcover of Odd Thomas in storage and if I remember correctly, I believe it's in good/very good condition. If I can find it, would you be interested in it-or do you already own it?
