Hi!

A thread to ask questions and get some advice.

Me first. :p

When I'm in the teachers lounge and two or more teachers/TA/staff are talking about politics/religion and they say stoopid stuff I disagree with, what should I do?
(Please remember, I work as a SUB!)

Thank you!

Argue the sh*te out of their stooped comments, showing them exactly where their logic fails- after all, you're a sub and you probably only work a week or two with them, right? Scream 'YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR COCKADOODIE MINDS!!!!!!' Siggy- I'm just kidding! Seriously, I wouldn't even bother with them. Just leave it alone, it'll save you some heartache and loss of sleep.

I agree with our friends here. The teachers in my school can request not to have certain subs, and you wouldn't want them to think you think they're stoopid, or they may ask the administration that you don't return!

But it surely is tempting, isn't it???? :)

Walk away.... walk away....

Yeah, it's the same with our Hot Topics area. Yesterday I read the thread about the NYT editiorial. I dicided to stay out of it after reading it because I wouldn't change a thing. It just makes me sad...

Like everyone else said, hold your tongue and walk away, no matter how huge the urge is to take a blunt object upside their heads. Me next!

Dear Gabby,

When doing my weekly shopping in a crowded supermarket on a Saturday morning, I am always sure to not leave my shopping cart blocking the aisles, I always say excuse me if someone is in my way and they don't see I am trying to pass and I put unwanted groceries back where they belong and not just shoved on a shelf where they don't belong. Unfortunately, not many others seem to follow my lead and I am constantly faced with rude shoppers. Other than reprimanding these people (which I have been known to do) or shopping online for groceries, what can I do to make my shopping experience less of a hassle?

Signed,

I have read David Foster Wallace "This is Water" I liked it very much. It's a speech he gave in front of graduates (college or University).

He used grocerie shopping as a metaphor for the stuff all adults have to do and cannot change about. Things that are mostly boring or unpleasant. The point he made is since you cannot stop to do it because you need the groceries. You have to change the way you think about it. Try not to think of the others stupidity since you don't really know the other shoppers. Maybe they have a really bad life. Maybe they have to deal with sickness or have to handle thousand things and so on. In the end it will help you soetimes to cope with it and not become frustrated.

You could try changing the hours you go shopping to when the store might be less crowded? If that isn't an option bring Chuck Norris along with you for company.....:D

A headset playing the type music you enjoy and an "air horn".
Seriously, rude shoppers exist and I've found acting the opposite often startles them enough that they move, step aside, move their misbehaving child, or run for another aisle.
Carts blocking the aisle :"Gee, these aisles are just as congested as the highway!" You should see the look you will get.
Someone putting an item back in an incorrect place: " Well now, I like this new lay out of products, bag of apples in the toilet paper aisle."
Reprimanding does little- they just get upset or worst/ humor might make them feel like being more courteous. Last resort- air horn-

What a great way to look at this situation. Thanks niro.
