I have not finished the story yet, I am half way through number 7- but I had to leave this here because there was something about the 2nd book that had me remember something fondly.

Please do not read the spoiler if you haven't read the book:

I've just got to the part where Eddie dies and I'm just... kind of down.. I've never shed a tear over a book in my entire life (I'm 34) but I guess there is a first for everything. I think book 2 is how I would remember Eddie (For the reason of how much I laughed while reading this book) if I was a character in the book
.

I cannot believe how funny this book is-I found myself laughing throughout almost the entire book when I read it in March. Most of it is because Roland is trying to interpret the slang of English in America. But Maybe It's just that my personality is similar to Eddie in real life (humor mostly misunderstood). How I look at life is not different from him and I'm always trying to bring laughter to a situation even if it sounds stupid at my expense. Those in my life who are "Roland-ish" always look at me that same way as Roland looks at Eddie at times-- But here is the secret: I don't care, Roland :D

I think Drawing of the Three is one of the best of the opus. My other favorite is Wolves of the Calla.

I loved how Roland had to figure out those whens by the seat of his pants. He's a crafty one, that gunslinger.

But to your question: I don't recall laughing, but I'm sure I must have. SK is humorous when appropriate - in all of his books, right?

The drawing of three was my favorite book of the entire series except for the last book. I also laughed quite a bit, and I loved experiencing the Ka-tet start to form. I never thought I would ever read the Dark Tower series from Stephen. I am truly a horror/suspense reader. When I saw the dark tower I never envisioned I would read them, thinking they were not for me. For my 27th birthday this past year my mother bought them for me. I have never read a series of books or even a stand alone book that I loved more then these did, as well as change my life. I love the dark tower series more than I can express in words and bug my family countlessly about all the things in them. Stephen King has changed my life, and helped me through so many countless times I cannot even express. But getting the gift of the Dark Tower, will forever remain my favorite thing I have ever gotten.

Those two books...far cry from each other in the way of character development. Seeing the way they develop, act, and react throughout the series is great. It was almost like accepting someone into your life and watching them become something great...part of your own ka-tet.

"Well,” Eddie said, “What was behind Door Number One wasn’t so hot, and what was behind Door Number Two was even worse, so now, instead of quitting like sane people, we’re going to go right ahead and check out Door Number Three. The way things have been going, I think it’s likely to be something like Godzilla or Ghidra the Three-Headed Monster, but I’m an optimist. I’m still hoping for the stainless steel cookware.”

And if you happen to think too much on it, the writing seems a little trig and your head hurts...take some "Astin".

I'm currently reading the series for the 2nd time and just finished Drawig of the Three and I had forgotten how funny it was.

I've read just about everything SK has written and Detta Walker is easily the funniest character he's come up with.
