I promise myself that every time I read a new SK book I will chew slowly and savour it this time around, then...BOOM...I'm done! He just pulls you along with wanting to know what is going to happen next, and I cannot help myself. The mark of a true master. Maybe that's why his rereads are so good, because I missed half of the book first time around reading it too quickly.

I do that too. I keep forgetting who's who because I want to know what happens next and I don't want to interrupt the story by referring to the character list. I'm about halfway through the novel - I started Part 2 last night. At least I've finally quit confusing Clint with Frank lol.

Dean Koontz too!

Hello! Everyone! I'm new to the boards today. Just finished the book. Loved it so much I wanted to seek out the fandom!

You're a much faster reader than I am :) I'm anxious to discuss the entire novel but it will take me a couple more days to finish it. Without posting any spoilers, can you say if you liked the ending?

The shout-out to Koontz surprised me lol. Do you know which of Koontz's novels they were referring to?

I think I got a better sense of closure in this book than his others I definitely didn't feel disappointed but I have to admit that it didn't exactly wow me. I wasn't orgasmic or anything. I was satisfied. When you finish you'll have to let me know if you feel the same!

AchtungBaby I just read your post in the What are you reading thread. I hope you don't mind me dragging it here :)

400 pages into Sleeping Beauties. Gotta be honest, I’m not loving it. :(

I've gone back and forth between loving SB and hating it. Firstly, I didn't like any of the characters and couldn't relate to any of them. The only character I actually liked was the fox lol. Secondly, I couldn't remember who was who - even with all the back stories (which I would have cut in half). THEN, after getting into Part 2, i decided we weren't supposed to actually like the characters and I loved the story so I kept reading. Some readers have compared SB to The Stand, UTD and Swan Song. I think it's more like The Langoliers and I loved The Langoliers :) I'm 72% finished and I'm really anxious to see what happens next :)

No problem! Yeah, I totally agree with you. And something I’m not enjoying is the really predictable, tired gender stereotypes. For a ‘progressive’ novel (see the dedication to Sandra Bland, the Mitch McConnell quote, etc.) exploring humanity and the way the two genders interact, it sure clings pretty hard to gender stereotypes straight out of old TV sitcoms.

I love Steve’s writing. I love Owen’s writing. But this novel is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. These two can spin a yarn—I want to keep reading and see where it goes—but the politics is getting in the way of the story. And that’s coming from someone who, largely, agrees with the Kings politically.

That happened to me too, I'm around page 200 and things definitely got better but at the very start I had to re-read once to get what happened and sometimes go back and see what happened to this character because he jumps around a lot, but it still has me more immersed more the plot unfolds and I want to see what happens.

Yeah, there is a lot of politics in the story, could have done without...

Yea I def agree with that, I didn't really mind the quote at the beginning but so far in what I've read, the first 200 pages, the Trump insults were a little too far. I know King is a strong liberal and "Trump-Hater" (his twitter shows a lot xD) but to be honest it could have been left out of the book, like he states a point and then puts in a quick jab at the President that is hardly necessary or adds to any character development or plot. He should just separate politics and his novels because you read to escape the political drama of the world.
