The old man rolling his own cigarettes and dropping tobacco everywhere reminded me of an old guy that lived by me when I was a 6 or 7 year old kid. I used to go over to his house once in a while. Him and his wife just adored me (how could they not ;-D). He used to roll his own cigarettes and he couldn't see his hand in front of his face. There was loose tobacco all over every chair in the house. He used to drop more tobacco than he got in the cigarettes. ;-D I got a good laugh from the description of this guy in the story.
Definitely one of the best details in the story, and one of the best stories in the collection (so far, I'm only halfway through). There was an underlying sense of humor running throughout the story, and between the tobacco and the farts it was very funny for such a scary, horrific tale. Seeing descriptions of this ahead of time made me think there was no way I'd like it as much as some of his less outlandish plots, but man was I wrong. I should have trusted in the King and remembered how wacky (and yet masterful) "The Lawnmower Man" was. I really had no trouble suspending my disbelief at any point, and I loved the ending. The little epilogue really makes the whole thing that much more haunting.
