Just finished rereading this one a minute ago. Good story and kind of interesting where he put in the part about being over in England and how glad they appeared to be, to be back in the States.

The kids were believable and cute; good little fantasy story; he knew how to portray step Dad as being an evil pr*ck.

In my copy it is the only story that is accompanied by an illustration. I found it to be a quick read

Really liked this story-- just hit the right buttons at the right time.
Came across a site I think you all might enjoy.

House On Maple Street - Home

ck out analyzing the story part.
I read it but she is mistaken about the house being in the UK; he mentions a blue US post box
“As they reached the blue US mailbox on the corner...”

I can see why she is confused - when you read the beginning of the story she took it to mean the house on Maple Street was in UK as they HAD summered in England.

But apart from that one thing, it is an interesting analysis.

Sadly, I had to deal with a real pr*ck for a stepfather so I'm less than enamored of this story.
Sorry to hear it Tery

Does your copy have this illustration in it?

Lately I have gotten so used to the large print books that I found it difficult to read this paperback - the printing seemed so tiny!

Tonight we are due to discuss The Fifth Quarter. I will post a thread but since Steve has a new book out, I'm not sure how much interest there will be for these discussions the next couple of weeks. I don't expect that anyone wants to put down the new book to read something old. I'll post the thread and we can comment on it tonight or at some time in the future after we finish the new book.

Thanks fljoe0 -- Indeed many will be reading the new book. The threads can remain open and posts will appear in time.

...not only was the family name Bradbury, the entire story was an homage to Ray himself and would have made a hell of an episode of either the Twilight Zone or Night Gallery.....
Yes! And the title reminded me of the The Monsters are Due on Maple Street, (even though the premise is somewhat different) they both involve space.
