Big Driver's a great story.
Okay - thanks - I just realized though, that as short stories go, it's not REALLY short (like not 4 or 5 pages) - I think I last read it in 2014 in Ohio :hmm:

Even though it's considered a short story by Stephen King's standards, it's actually quite long, if I recall correctly - it was in Full Dark, No Stars I think.

I'm not sure if the group wants to keep this to shorter stories. Big Driver might be too long? Hopefully others will weigh in and give you some feedback.

Normally, I'd be ok with it but being that we are close to Christmas and everyone has extra stuff going on, maybe a shorter story would be better.
Yes, thinking about it, a shorter might be better as sometimes I have trouble getting these read in a timely manner even when they are short.

Neesy, it's looking due to everyone's tight schedules that a short story is best.

I don't think it's stated. Yes, he could be a safety monitor of sorts. It felt scientific to me because of the parameters of the environment set up. Watching these people interact with their space, but only intervening to protect them or the "props."

Until they started having sex and for his own reasons, which aren't really clearly stated, he allows them to complete and then involves himself in their conversation. Which gets his ass beat down.

I think this is one of those stories that is left to the eye of the beholder. What do we each see?
Oh, Absolutely. Heck, even Saunders said he didn't know what it meant. I'm amazed he was able to translate his dream without interference to paper. When I'm writing, I seem to constantly be warring against distractions, mental interruptions like Rottweilers on a steak. I can't imagine trying to reconstruct a narrative from dreams and shadows and whispers.

additional thought-- several of the stories in 20th Century Ghosts are shorter. Maybe Neesy has a favorite from there?
How about Batman and Robin Have an Altercation? That one is much shorter

I think the above mentioned story is about five pages long - would that be better?

Me, too - not a lot of time to get all those Christmasy things done!

p.s. Here is a link to a PDF if that is allowed:
