I am late responding. I was done reading on time but was not able to get here last week for more than a few minutes.
I loved the reread. It had been long enough that details were fresh. And my daughter read it for the first time with us! She is never one to shy away from giving her most informed "I am teenager, hear me roar" opinion but she knows I wanted to share her thoughts with you all and that made her clam up. She did very much enjoy it though. She asked what we are reading next.
Anyway, just a few more thoughts from me. Jack and Richard's trip across the Blasted Lands in the little train and Blaine the Pain with Roland and Co across The Waste Lands are another parallel to DT. I too liked the part with Anders. Except when he got so offended. He knew Jack was but wasn't really Jason, so I was angry at Anders for not accepting Jack's apology for making that mistake in Territories etiquette. He should have been more gracious, I thought.
I also wondered what Sloat did to Anders when he found out Jack took the train.
The last section is very cinematic. The whole book is. It is a great adventure story.
