i agree with your thoughts on language. It's so tedious and overworked IMO.
I, who you know as wayoftheredpanda, citizen of the United States of America, State of Texas, would be pleased to take place in an argument against the statement you posted in the thread, “Discussion Group for March 6th— Dagon by H.P. Lovecraft” by user wayoftheredpanda, Who happens to be me, at 12:12 pm on the date of March 6th 2019 A.D. You see, I’d take this particular moment to exclaim what I shall refer to as “Exhibit A”, that lengthy tedious wording is merely a style of the writer in question, who is the popular American horror icon Howard Phillips Lovecraft, and that it is a figurative stap-

....my schedule is always uncertain on Wednesday, so allow me to comment a bit early....this is not Lovecraft at his best....I have been a fan for years and knew the tale long ago....time hasn't changed my mind.....he crammed every overly descriptive wording and phrase into this and flung it at our imagination and hoped it would stick....his tropes were poorly handled.....his leviathan cosmology and those "from outside space" were given much better treatment in other stories....Panda?....I'm not pooping on your suggestion, just saying that this black slime could have been smeared better elsewhere by Howard Phillips....the maestro of dark atmosphere missed the mark on this one....

Ditto on what you said so perfectly.

I have never been a Lovecraft fan. I give him mad props for being a pioneer of Weird Fiction, but as far as I can remember, I have never read anything I particularly liked of his.

I also find it interesting and very cool that the ladies that contributed to this thread enjoyed this read and Lovecraft. Most women I know don't care for him at all, but the men do. Sort of like men (in general) love The Three Stooges and most women don't. But, I loved that you girls appreciated him in a way I can't.

I have a book of his short stories and I hope to read it and develop a little better appreciation for a writer that so many admire.

OK, let's switch genres for next week. 3:10 to Yuma by Elmore Leonard (as long as the link holds out). The movie versions are quite different than this story. The story is not very long so the movie makers added a bit to it.

Story of the Week: Three-Ten to Yuma

You can find this in The Complete Western Stories Of Elmore Leonard too. (It's well worth buying)
