.....soon be beddy-bye time for the always plump and semi-pleasant GNT, sooooooo.......commentary on Middle Eastern mis-doings?.........maybe in a shallow manner, but it's window dressing really for a creepy but predictable "who's gonna do it?".....yet Joe's strength of vision and word waltz make this another attention keeping thriller.....

Found this story "uncomfortable" to read. Disturbing social commentary with happenings that were all to real.

It is a nasty story but a good one. In the notes, Joe said he wrote this during his dark period and this story is nothing but dark. It's one of those what goes around comes around type stories.

I haven't got a chance to read the graphic novel yet but according to the notes, it was done after the story was written. I'm not sure if they are all done like that or if the graphic novel comes first sometimes.

....I believe the novella was first.......but give the graphic novel a whirl....it's really well done, at least in my humble bumble opinion.....

This was a brutal tale of man's inhumanity to man.

We send kids to fight, we train them to be killers. And robotic, cold killers they become. And they have to lose a little bit of their humanity to get through it.

Living in a constant state of alert, fear and fight mode, it has to fundamentally change a person. And this story kind of insinuated that fighting and killing and seeing those around you killed just enhanced what was already inside of you. A lot of anger, hate and cruelty came out in this cast of characters.

And at the end, the girl knew the torture she was going to feel, because she inflicted it. And like she said, someone being tortured will tell you anything. Anything you want to hear. She was prepared to tell him what he wanted to hear. Just like the ones before her did.
