...annnnndddd another first!,,,,a bit overly flowery, but the bones of the story are quite good and made me smile-much like a good Sherlockian tale would....plus, as a rather tall person myself-I found this amusing....he looked out steadily for anyone, rich or poor, male or female, who was well up to six feet; for Flambeau was four inches above it.....in that time period, I'm sure that height was gargantuan, just had to chuckle....

The author is a master of Paradox. Chesterton constantly challenges readers to discover the true explanation for many seemingly unconnected and strange clues.
The salt in sugar bowl, soup on the wall, broken window etc. The reader has to make connections to these events. Eventual, one comes to realize that Father Brown’s actions are essential for his own protection and to prevent the valuable blue cross from being stolen by Flambeau.

Neither Valentin nor Flambeau realizes the craftiness of Father Brown. His ability to recognize the TALL priest as a fake.
Really enjoyed this story and may look into other pieces he has written.

Well that's cool. I didn't realize this was the Father Brown from the show.

This story started off very slow for me, but it had to lay that groundwork and once you get to the final part of the story, you see why.

If you think about it, Priests would be great outlaws. They would hear all the stories. They would know the ins and outs of criminality. And with the right questions, could have the wealth of the indies in information regarding thievery.

Fun story.

I've never read the story so I have no idea if it is any good or not. Fingers crossed.

Spideyman I'm sorry I missed last night - so much going on here these days - but it'll slow soon. I'm going to read this at work this morning and come back to talk. I've never read Chesterton - but he's quite popular among the people I know from church/work. I am looking forward to it!

Also looking forward the the Gaiman for next week's read - I recognize the words of the title from the poem Kubla Khan. Interesting!

I'm catching up on these stories. The last few weeks were nonstop busy!

First time read for me as well and I enjoyed it very much. It made me smile, I found the chase scenes to be hilarious. I did not know there was a show. But I kept picturing The Three Stooges! This would have made a great episode for them. :D

Fun story, I enjoyed it a lot.
