So rereading this story I found the ending was much like his story “The Tell-tale heart” in the way that a sound causes the narrator madness and led to their arrest for murder,
Another “tell-tale heart” similarity is the use of something driving the narrator to commit murder, although in this instance it was 2nd degree instead of 1st

I found the twist in the story good but slightly dull, it was the same thing as TTH in concept
I like the symbolism of the white tuft of fur on the cat’s chest resembling gallows
Yes, that white patch of fur was a nice touch, Being Poe wrote both stories , there is always a "touch" of something in the same concept.

Nah not a normal cat, but I think the point of the story was was it a normal cat and the narrator was just being paranoid, or was the cat a spirit coming to haunt him? Sort of like “William Wilson” ‘s theme

Thank you, do you think if the murder of his wife never happened he would’ve hung a whole generations worth of black cats? Maybe every time he killed one another noose-shaped tuft would be added, to the point where there would be a cat with the whole suicide forest mapped out on it!
There could have easily been a follow up of re occurrence-- cats do have NINE lives.!! 
Kurben -- I think it would be fine. Children do not stay out late as a school night, and now many communities do a Fall Festival on the weekend.
