Thank you Spidey. Forgot about that darn time difference.

I love Twain's casual language, really down-home. It's one reason I refer to SK as a a modern-day Mark Twain. The idea of pouring the shot down the frog's throat...!

Boasting how he gambled on just about anything!

I wondered if maybe he was Australian ;)

This is a neat little parable and shows why Twain is so beloved. His essay on Queen Victoria's diamond Jubilee parade was fascinating, too. I have the complete Twain now. For 99 cents. Gotta love e-books :)

Please note: the reading discussion group will take a break until Wednesday October 24, due to board closure.

Wayoftheredpanda had suggested : “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe.

Will tag him after re opening to see if this is still the plan.
Yeah I’ll still do the black cat but I have no idea how to organize these things.

"Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog" (its original title) and "The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" -was not aware of this....old dog learned summpin'!....

....this was his first big "hit", which I read longer back than I care to recall, but I do remember I went through a Twain phase, and he never let me down....could always put a grin above my chin.....
