A worm gets into your computer from these 2 sites. I go to Yahoo every day, but I will never go there again!
Cost me 100bucks to get it off my computer!
The tech had to take over my computer for over 2 hours to fix it. Otherwise it would have been useless the tech told me.
GRRRRR!!!

pegasus216 can you please explain further. What part of Yahoo did you go to? Do you have Yahoo email? Are you using a PC or Mac. Would appreciate further information.

I've used Yahoo Mail for years, and I've never had a problem. I also have a gmail account, with the same result: no issues. Perhaps you 'caught' something while on a linked site (linked from Yahoo news to another site)?

I'm starting to think so too - I looked up 'worm' and 'Yahoo" etc. and the last thing mentioned was from about 2006.

Got something about a worm in a tequila bottle too! :):umm:

I was wondering if it was a virus from a particular email you got, that you accidentally opened?

I keep getting emails from someone named "Svetlana" who keeps propositioning me in bad English.

I just send all of these to spam immediately and then empty my trash folder.

Did the tech have any idea how the worm infected your computer?

To explain further..
I go to the Yahoo site, and go to My Yahoo to read the news, and check if I have any email. I had no email, so I didn't even click that on.
The tech said it is coming out of Russia.
I use a PC.
He told me it came from the Yahoo site.
I am scared to go there again. I don't get many emails from there, so I deleted it out.
To top it all off, when the first tech I talked with had just gone into my computer when my internet server went down. For about 3 hours. So when it came back up, I had to go through the process with the tech again.
It hits randomly he said, so everyone will not be affected.
I have Norton, and I wrote them a nasty email about them not picking it up.

Did you call the "tech" or did he call you? If he called you with this "news" and you did not initiate the call, I am sorry to have to tell you this, but you have been scammed.

If you did initiate the call because of a problem you were having, then disregard what I said up above.

I called them. When I opened my internet, a big notice came on there to tell me I had been 'damaged', and to call the number that was there. It even had a auditable message.
I was watching him do his thing from his end, and it went into all kinds of places, and deleted parts, and checked other parts, and ran scans.
He did get rid of it, but I am scared to go to Yahoo again.
Karen searched it up yesterday, and found out about it in Google.
The tech had told her the name of it, but I can't remember what it was, and she's not here right now to ask. I will find out though, and let you all know what the name is.

Had a similar experience the other day. I do extensive research and am very careful what links I click on . I was in Google search, clicked on a link, and as Pegasus stated- the screen went gray/ a drop box appeared warning me not to shut down as it would cause damage to the computer. BSOD. It gave instruction to call "this #" for tech support". I was using a MacBook. Tried closing to box only to get the same message as written in the box in audio.
Suspicious to call that #, I found the Apple support # and called it. The lady was extremely nice. She took over the computer, I followed her instructions and presto, all cleared. She said it was Malware.
There are scams out there to call a #. Be careful. Use only #'s you are familiar with.
I use Yahoo and have had no issues, other than it is a tad slow at times with emails!

If you called the number on the screen, that still sounds a bit scammy to me. It sounds like a version of ransomware (most commonly this has a fake police page that locks your computer claiming you may have done something very illegal but if you pay a small charge it will go away). Who exactly did you call?

Guess what? It popped up again! Task manager doesn't get rid of it, I've tried several times.
If I go to Microsoft Edge from my desktop, it pops up. If I go to Microsoft Edge from my taskbar, or from the start up menu, it is not there. Very weird.
Yeah, I think I got took.
The worm was called Koobface.

I'm so sorry you were scammed. They almost got me last year. Luckily my (far more tech savvy) daughter was home and stopped me from calling. She cleared it right off and scolded me (lol).
