pegasus216 not tech savvy , but possible post #26. I stayed away from PC's after too many issue. Only suggestion would be to get on another computer. Find the microsoft support # and call them.
This is what I see on a google search. They could direct you to the correct help.

I did that too, and called that number. Found out it was a scam. So when that money posts to my credit card, I will call them to let them know it was a scam, and hopefully get my money back.
I have been busy doing things to my computer.
First, I did a backup to the 21st, and that took forever. But it fixed it! It is now gone!
Second, I changed all my passwords. My bank, and my 2 credit cards, and even my sign in to my computer. Karen found that one for me cause I didn't know where to look.
I am really tired of dealing with this crap. I will know better if it ever happens again!

pegasus216 - I have some further concerns. you said :I was watching him do his thing from his end, and it went into all kinds of places, and deleted parts, and checked other parts, and ran scans.
Scammers work fast- please , as Ms Mod stated, keep a daily eye on you bank accts and credit cards even though you changed your passwords.

From what I researched when we were called about this, they are only deleting cookies and whatnot to make those less tech savvy just think they are deleting viruses, etc. The real scam is in charging for this "service." Hopefully that's all that happened with pegasus216.

They started out wanting 300, and I told them I didn't have that kind of money for this, and they cut it down to 100 for a year. I sure hope that I get it back.

pegasus216 --- they have your card #. You stated "for a year". I would suggest requesting a new card, just in case. Would hate for this to be out of sight and mind and they re charge in a year. Passwords, even when changed, can be hacked. Just a thought.

When that charge gets posted, I am calling the credit card company about it. I will ask if I can get a new card.

If I knew anyone who was running one of these scams I would punch him as hard as I could - and I'm one of the least violent people you could meet.

How much stuff do you have on your computer? If anything even remotely suspicious happens on your computer I would be inclined to back up everything I wanted to keep and use the system recovery to go back to factory settings.

I don't use Windows 10 so I can't say I have experience with edge as a browser, but in the past Internet Explorer was more prone to attacks than other browsers, that's why I've used Firefox for years.

A worm gets into your computer from these 2 sites. I go to Yahoo every day, but I will never go there again!
Cost me 100bucks to get it off my computer!
The tech had to take over my computer for over 2 hours to fix it. Otherwise it would have been useless the tech told me.
GRRRRR!!!

The tech who came to repair your computer wasn't called Brady by chance?

I'd check your computer for screaming ghost baby files

Behind you
Off topic.

One time I clicked on an article on yahoo. 'Free samples' yay!
I responded.

Lordy, they called. They just wanted one dollar, and my credit card number.

Stupidly, I gave them number. Then I started getting 10 phone calls an hour asking for a conformation code that I had not given them. They were getting mean and nasty (with a accented voice)

Found out that a charge was made in Florida somewhere, for one dollar, testing the card.

Finally, after my phone ringing constantly for a full day, I cursed them out and told them I will call police if they ever try to call me again.

Ad is still there on Yahoo.

Yeah, I did.
I called my credit card and they told me that they have had a few calls about this already.
they said I should hear back from them within 7 days, and my account balance will be adjusted.
They couldn't do anything about it until it did post, and it was there this morning.
I am going to repot them to the real Microsoft company, and maybe they can do something about them.

Let's hope she looks like this! (Some of those Slavic girls can be scary looking ummm - sort of 'big boned' perhaps)

p.s. I think she has stuffed her cat [in the background]

Guess what? It popped up again! Task manager doesn't get rid of it, I've tried several times.
If I go to Microsoft Edge from my desktop, it pops up. If I go to Microsoft Edge from my taskbar, or from the start up menu, it is not there. Very weird.
Yeah, I think I got took.
The worm was called Koobface.
Koobface? Seriously? Wow - the names they come up with!

I am sorry this is happening. My son (who is cognitively challenged) allowed a guy to get into his computer. I believe it was a caller from India.

I was not home when this happened.

Long story short - the guy totally wiped out his computer for spite, as Josh could not give him a credit card number and only had a debit card (which at that time) did not have a 3-digit access code on the back.

He even put a password so Josh could not get into his computer.

Took it in to get it fixed and that is when we found out it was totally wiped out and they had stolen everything he had in terms of software.

It was a complete waste of a service fee, as it turned out.

There are more and more scammers out there these days, it seems :choler::doubt:

Recharge in a year? Maybe they meant 100 dollars a month for a year!

Wow - the gall of these people! It makes me sick to think they are taking advantage of vulnerable people. Anything to make a buck and apparently no morals at all.:down:
