Here's the actress cast as Abra Stone:

‘Doctor Sleep’ Introducing Another Character With Gift of “The Shining”

For those worried about another Akiva Goldsman take on SK, at least Flanagan rewrote it.

WOW....talk about totally different from how she's described in the book! Dan, Rose, and the Stones are all physically described in the book. The others, not so much. Not sure how I feel about Abra's casting.
Crowdaddy...perfect.
Rose...eh...I would've preferred Evangeline Lilly, but that's just me.
Dan... wonderful.
Wendy...again, different than the book, but similar to the Shining movie.

Movie being moved up from 2020 to this year November is a great sign. Maybe some potential Oscar noms? Getting Rebecca Ferguson to play Rose the Hat is inspired. She was awesome in the last two Mission Impossible movies! Over what Flanagan did with Hill House on Netflix can't wait to see what he does with Doctor Sleep. Plus it will be interesting to see how he juggles the different versions of The Shining - the movie, better known by the public versus the book.

I haven't followed this project too closely. Is there a trailer yet? I only ask in case I am wrong that there is not, because I have looked. I saw that the release date is supposed to be Sept. 8, but do you think they're going to keep that date? I know the studio probably wants to be as close to It as it can without either one cannibalizing the other (more likely Sleep would be impacted in It's wake if it were too close), but I read somewhere that the film was undergoing test screenings as of last month. I have no idea if that would represent a normal timing of the process (probably would, thinking about it), but shouldn't there have been at least a teaser by now?

Also, had no idea Ewan McGregor was in it. He's something of a good get for the film, but looking at the rest of the cast, I'm assuming he's to make sure the film can travel internationally, financially speaking. Didn't realize, by the way, it's coming from Warners...they are definitely in the King business (they should sign him to an overall when WarnerMedia puts together its streaming service)...

I really like Doctor Sleep, and Mike Flanagan won me over with his last few movies (including the Haunting of Hill House mini-series). However, I have reservations about this film being marketed as a blatant sequel to the Kubrick movie. The average movie-goer doesn't know that Kubrick's film deviated from King's novel, and the tonal differences between that film and the "Sleep" story might be jarring. I also think that no movie will ever measure up to Kubrick's wonderful mess of a film, and the critics may be unkind to the Doctor Sleep "sequel" because of this.

That being said, I'm really looking for to this film.

That's a good point, Steffen. How will they sell this to the crowd brought up on the Kubrick film, indeed? Never thought about that. In a sense, some level of disappointment is already baked in.

Also, just to correct something in my previous post: I meant to write Nov. 8 as the release date, not September. (Unless I got that wrong, too.)

As much as I hate to say this: I think Warners missed an opportunity here to jump aboard the "remake" train. They should have done a fresh, high-profile adaptation of King's Shining, and then done the Doctor Sleep film as the definitive sequel to that film. Leave Kubrick's movie alone. Also, it would have been great to give James Wan The Shining, and Mike Flanagan Doctor Sleep.

I wish Flanagan would have written and directed a definitive version of The Shining as a miniseries. If it was as good as THOHH, I would have been over the moon.

I love this idea, Doc. And having recently watched Zodiac for a second time, I immediately thought of Mark Ruffalo playing Jack Torrance.

Btw, I read that Flanagan is doing a second season of Hill House, and it will borrow heavily from The Turn of the Screw. Can't wait!

The trailer looks great. One of those perfect teaser trailers.

The scenes from Kubrick's film were recreated, apart from the blood coming from the elevator.

Here's more:
