Sad story.

I feel bad for his daughter but not for him. Wananbe gang-banger that threw his life away and ruined the lives of his family as well as the families of the three people (we know of) that he murdered.
Totally agree.

Although, they did an autopsy on him and his brain showed the worst CTE they have ever seen according to this doc. You mess with the brain by getting hit a bazillion times and then add drugs on top of that, and then filter in the ego and freewill of a person -- recipe for total disaster.

Thanks for the article.

I know about the claims from his doctor. Occupational hazard of being a pro-football player. Not saying that football players don't need better helmets / head protection. They do. My opinion is that the CTE and his criminal pathology are coincidental. He was a punk dirtbag from the time he was a kid. That was a an environmental / socioeconomic issue that he should have been able to rise above considering he broke out of that environment when he made the pros. However, he chose to remain Mr. Thuglife.

Claim sort of means, to me, that they just tossed that out there. They have proof that he was brain damaged so no longer a claim but actual fact.

Yes, nature versus nurture and all that. But he had brain damage. So, my guess is it just accelerated what he already had formed as his character.

But, I don't know, take a docile, kind, quiet law-abiding citizen and hit him in the head over 27 years playing football starting at peewee level (not sure when Hernandez started playing football), in the area of the brain known for aggression, poor impulse control, rage behaviors, emotional volatility, decision making, it might just maybe change them.

"Claim" meaning that the doctor was claiming that the CTE is reason he did what he did. Not disputing the CTE itself. If the CTE was the sole cause of the criminality every pro-football, rugby, hockey, and soccer player would be committing criminal acts.

Again, occupational hazard. He knew the risks of brain damage and still continued to play football.

I do think the CTE is the reason he did what he did. Not saying he isn't a Thug or embraced that lifestyle. But, maybe, just maybe -- reasonable doubt -- he wouldn't have killed.

But, having said that, that doesn't excuse that he is a murderer. He still needed to be held accountable and go to prison. I'm on the same page with you on that. I just think it does explain why he did it, but not excuse to get away with it.

This was a great weekend for documentaries.

I AM EVIDENCE

This documentary made me furious! Absolutely every single one of you should watch this and demand action from your government to fund the processing of DNA rape kits. Disgusting revelations. Makes me just sick.

Becoming Mike Nichols

This was an interesting story about Mr. Nichols life, and then it became brilliant when he discussed Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe and The Graduate.

Both films stellar and superb acting. I forgot how beautiful Dustin Hoffman was in that movie. My second favorite actor to Michael Caine.

Elvis Presley: The Searcher

This was very good as I saw many photos and film clips I have never seen before, and I absolutely love to hear Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and others speak about Elvis and his career.

If you thought you knew it all and have seen all there is to see, you are wrong.

No Going Back: Women & the War -- a documentary on PBS about women from the south and what they had to do to survive during the Civil War. This was extremely interesting and women weren't going to take it anymore, "Bread or Blood!"

Andre The Giant on HBO

A fascinating look at Andre's life and the life of a professional wrestler in the 70s and 80s.
I'm going to watch this one when I can. It looks really good and almost uncomfortable in the freak show quality and exploitation of his life and career. I'll have to see what they say about all that before I can figure out my feelings about it all.

Andre loved his career and the spotlight but also hated being looked at as a freak.

What Haunts Us

This was really sad. It makes you wonder, has almost everyone been molested as a child.

I was one of the lucky ones, I wasn't. But every single day, I find out about others who have been and it is tarnishing my thoughts about being a kid for them.

Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story -- American Masters PBS

19113816_1759585050765053_1514083795799328404_n.jpg

This beautiful woman was brilliant. Absolutely a scientist that no one wanted to believe could be anything other than a pretty face.

"Among the few who knew of Lamarr's inventiveness was aviation tycoon Howard Hughes. Lamarr discussed her relationship with Hughes during an interview, saying that while they dated, he actively supported her "tinkering" hobbies. He put his team of science engineers at her disposal, saying they would do or make anything she asked for.[31]

During World War II, Lamarr learned that radio-controlled torpedoes, an emerging technology in naval war, could easily be jammed and set off course.[32] She thought of creating a frequency-hopping signal that could not be tracked or jammed. She contacted her friend, composer and pianist George Antheil, to help her develop a device for doing that, and he succeeded by synchronizing a miniaturized player-piano mechanism with radio signals.[26] They drafted designs for the frequency-hopping system, which they patented."

And this technology is used today in WiFi and gps. And there is a whole story about this technology and the lack of payment and recognition to Hedy and her partner. Although I don't think they ever received the billions they deserved, they did finally receive recognition.

"In 1997, they received the Electronic Frontier Foundation Pioneer Award and the Bulbie Gnass Spirit of Achievement Bronze Award, given to individuals whose creative lifetime achievements in the arts, sciences, business, or invention fields have significantly contributed to society.[38] Lamarr was featured on the Science Channel and the Discovery Channel.[11] In 2014, Lamarr and Antheil were posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.[39]"

Super interesting woman.

I was a teen should not have been watching the other one. But I thought was funny made me laugh....I found it so odd and neat what people did.

LOVED that show. You can see them on youtube. I've watched them years later on youtube. One of my favorites was America Undercover: Richard Kuklinski
