I am of the mind that the music should be able to stand alone, because he was such an influence. But I wonder if I will feel the same after watching the new documentary.

In most cases, I can separate the art from the personal issues. I watch Roman Polanski movies, Woody Allen movies and listen to all kinds of musicians with various disgusting behavioral allegations against them but the MJ allegations are on a different level and that doc makes the separation of art and allegations very tough.

I mentioned Woody Allen above but I'm really starting to have some trouble separating Woody Allen from the art these days. For years, I kind of brushed all that off as viscous fighting between exes but I don't think that was right and Woody has gotten much creepier to me.

Is it fair to disregard Michael Jackson's incredible influence on music because of the controversy? And I say that as someone who was never a big fan of his. I still understand and appreciate that he was influential.

Not really, because art and personal life aren’t the same. He did horrible things but boycotting the music is stupid imo.

People still love John Lennon’s music despite the fact that he was a wife-beater. People still love Roman Polanski films despite him being a fugitive sex-offender. It’s okay to praise a person’s art or impact while still accepting that they did terrible things.

Cat, do you have Netflix? This Is It is on Netflix. You could prescreen it and see what you think. I do think it is about his music and his creativity and you know Ty. You will make the best decision.

I do, and turning it on now.

As fljoe0 and Wayoftheredpanda said, usually I can separate the art/creativity from the personal side. Right now I don't see a problem with Ty watching This is It. Music appreciation. I am debating on going ahead and watching Leaving Neverland too, today. But I don't know if that is fair...I do think it may change my opinion. And, in the music appreciation sense, that is unfair.

Started watching Cults and Extreme Belief (A&E) on Hulu. The first episode was on NXIVM - never heard of it before. It shocks me how people are still so susceptible to these things. But as long as there are lonely people being promised wealth, good looks, success, popularity, etc. there will always be victims.

Also useful to garner cultists; someone to blame their failures on and hate. :(

Anyone can start a cult if they’re charismatic and convincing enough. (You should join mine)

No thanks. :no_pig:
Oh but did you know we worship our lord and savior, The Green Dinosaur, through a catchy rap song? (That I wrote of course)

[Verse 1]
Now, Down in a place called Colorado,
Long before it was called that name,
There lived a certain beast,
That had a lot of fame,
Now, he stomped through the forests,
And it gave a mighty sound,
And when you heard that sound,
It was sure to shake the ground,
(It went like)

[Chorus]
Stomp, Roar,
Stomp, Roar,
That is the sound of the Green Dinosaur,

Stomp, Roar,
Stomp, Roar,
That is the sound of the Green Dinosaur,

[Verse 2]
Now he had velociraptor legs,
And he had a T-Rex tail,
Oh the Green Dinosaur he can not
fail,

Now he had a brontosaurus neck,
And Stegasaurus spines,
Oh when you’re around the Green Dinosaur, you dare not whine,

And when you think you’re sleeping safely in your bed,

He comes crashing through with his triceratops head!

(And it sounds like)

[Chorus]
Stomp, Roar,
Stomp, Roar,
That is the sound of the Green Dinosaur,

Stomp, Roar,
Stomp Roar,
That is the sound of the Green Dinosaur,

[Verse 3]
His mighty stomps do cause thunderbolts,
He has been the idol of a thousand cults,

And every time the Green Dinosaur stomps in mud,
Another sacrifice is made in blood,

[Chorus]
Stomp, Roar
Stomp, Roar
That is the sound of the Green Dinosaur

Stomp, Roar,
Stomp, Roar,

You must submit to the Green Dinosaur....

When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions. So far I watched the first two DVD's (The Gemini and Apollo missions and am up too the Space Shuttle era.) Fantastic footage. I still get a shiver up my spine when I see that footage of Apollo 11 blasting off.

Don’t nobody go starting no cults around here. Be warned, I was a certified deprogrammer in the 70’s at the height of the cult phenomena. :)
The cult that annoys me most right now is Nerium, or has been renamed Neora..I cannot believe the amount of family and friends that fell for this obvious pyramid scheme.. clue, if they want you to focus on recruiting more people rather than selling the product, IT IS A GODDAM PYRAMID SCHEME!!! But there is no talking to them, they allow the hopes of easy money to blind them to this nonsense..

My Dad Wrote a Porno

This was amusing. Unfortunately, I felt like I wasn't in on the bigger ongoing joke. And It would've been better had I watched this being part of the knowers. It was still fun though. I just used my imagination to fill in the blanks that everyone else was already onboard with.

This HBO special is based on erotic books written by a dad, given to a son.

Podcasts where the son reads parts of his dad's ongoing erotic series of writings titled, Belinda Blinked apparently are quite popular. Drinking games are played.

I am thinking of subscribing to the Documentary Channel - do you think it would be worth it? My cable company (Shaw) already charges an arm and a leg for internet, TV and home phone.
I don't have the documentary channel so not sure if it's a good investment or not. I watch mine all over the place. Cable, Hulu, Netflix, Youtube and regular TV channels like PBS.
