I'm glad you got some enjoyment from listening to it Flake but I'm sorry it upset you, it wasn't my intention to do that , apologies to D.J. as well for any upset. Bowie was one of those people who seemed to be around as long as I have been listening to music. I have a cousin who put me on to his music in the late 70's and while I was a full on metal head I was attracted to the richness and diversity of his music. I was lucky enough to see him in concert in 1990 here in Dublin, amazing show. And his acting, I don't think a lot of people appreciate how good an actor he was, he was excellent in The Hunger and Merry Christmas Mr.Lawrence, and his short film for Blue Jean is hilarious. Gone but immortal.
Naw don't apologise, there is nothing to be sorry for. I was maybe just in a little down spot when I watched it last night? I dunno, he is just one of a few people that I haven't been able to let go of. You know how some people come into your life and really become a huge part of your make up without ever touching you directly?
His music and movies and plays have always been with me, during the most defining and difficult times, it was his art that I turned to.
I still have Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and watched it again not long after he left us, it was just as powerful as the first time I watched it.

You and I attended his concerts just a few years (although a world) apart. I saw in him Auckland (New Zealand) in 1987, it was my first concert and was outstanding.

Please don't feel bad, I really am glad you shared it... and I'm sorry I barfed up all over you like that. :biggrin2:

I watched this last night.... [massive sigh] it was hard, really tough and for a couple reasons. 1) It always just makes it so fresh again when I immerse myself in anything David.
2) It was so tough because, even though they've done a good job, it still wasn't him. It wasn't his voice and some of those words were definitely not his.
Even though he shared a lot in interviews, he was still at the core of it all, a deeply private person... and I struggled a bit with the fact that they're openly talking about his illness when in reality, he didn't want it talked about.
Not just that they're talking about it, but making it appear that he is talking about it. This was the one thing that he didn't want out there, that was for close friends and family only.
One thing though had me laughing out loud and nodding and just took me right back. When he was saying that it's "Bowie, not bow-ee".... oh boy. Every time I hear someone say this wrong in media, on TV etc, I always correct it. That piece of the radio show just really tickled me.

I love that man and miss him so much.

I'm so glad to have heard this though, I need to keep hearing of him, no matter what the method. Thanks Notaro I appreciate you posting this.
awww flakers, I'm so sorry. If it helps, 80% of what is in the The Final Take is public things that David wrote or what he said in interviews. And his estate appears to have been okay with this adaptation as the only thing they asked that they NOT do is have the actor sing David's songs, which they honored.

No, I'm not upset at all. I think it was done respectfully and with love for the man. I've been watching a few documentaries on him and he was a fascinating person.

Anyone watch the documentary Stephen King: Master of Horror on the REELZ Channel that was on recently? I Tivo’d it but haven’t watched it yet. What did you think?

I get a kick out of the picture in the link above. Did King get that picture taken just for the documentary? I find it had to believe that he’s used a typewriter like that in many decades.

Old school/ retro is sometimes good, especially if the power goes out.;)

Somehow I just can't envision King plinking away on a manual typewriter by candlelight when the power goes out. I think he might have a generator or two for those occasions, and at a minimum a battery in that Apple PC of his. :)
Yes, they do have generators for back up but that picture wasn't taken for the REELZ documentary. I can't remember what movie set it was taken on (or even if it definitely was a movie set) but if my brain cells/synapses start firing again and it comes to me where it was taken, I'll pass it along.

Thanks. I think they probably go with propane generators as they are extremely reliable and can power entire homes... and kick in as soon as the power goes out. If not I can set them up. ;):)

And LOL... rough vacation? :)

Yes, propane generators are a great way to go and that's what they have. I had a Generac propane generator installed last year that kicks in within 30 seconds and will power the entire house; one of the best home investments I've ever made. We already used propane for heat/hot water/dryer/cooking so made sense to go that route plus we don't have to worry about running out for gasoline like we'd had to do with our other generator. That can also be a huge problem if it's a weather situation that makes it too dangerous to get out or the gas stations don't have generators so can't pump the gasoline. It's been called on a number of times and as a matter of fact, came on yesterday for about an hour.

The term "vacation" shall be loosely used to describe the time off. I got home mid-afternoon on Thursday and pretty much vegged out until Saturday as I had zero energy or motivation to do anything more than sit on the patio to read during the day or watch TV in the evening. Next trip down won't be until the end of November so will have had enough time passed to be excited to make that trip again. :)

Smart move on your part going with propane. Gasoline and diesel fuel degrade with time (even a stabilizer additive only gets you about one year out of the gas). Propane stays viable for up to 30 years. Plus the ethanol in gasoline absorbs water. I have an 8500 watt gasoline Generac generator. Every Fall I need to drain the gas tank out because of water that has accumulated in it. The longest I’ve been without electricity is three days… which is what prompted me to get a generator. I live on the road (and within a mile)to both an elementary school and a fire department, so our line is one of the very first to get repaired in an outage. Only needed the generator twice last winter. I laugh at people that come into home improvement center inquiring about gas generators. Their main concern is always the noise. I tell them, yes, they are noisy but what would you rather deal with… a little noise that you become accustomed to in short order, or no power? A ‘duh’ moment fer sure!

We have two propane tanks because of the number of appliances using it and were able to just run a line from the generator to the existing ones so it's being used and replaced often enough for it not to be a worry. While we were having the line run to the generator, I had them run another one to my gas grill that used propane tanks so now don't have to ever do that again either. I'd debated because of the cost to add the line but it's been more than worth the convenience for the relatively little it cost. No more running out halfway through cooking a meal on the grill and not having a backup propane tank.

That noise of the generator is like a chorus of angels as far as I'm concerned when the power goes out and I can still be doing everything I was doing and have running water for the toilet which I wouldn't otherwise as we're on a well. Plus the heat if it goes out in the winter. The down side is that I can't claim I can't work if the power goes out anymore, though.

My propane gas grill is sitting in a corner rusting away. I’m now a 100% charcoal grill guy. I especially like using hardwood lump charcoal… the real stuff.

My generator can run everything in the home except for the heat pump, but I have to play musical chairs with the breakers so as to not overload it. I have a chart provided by Generac so I know what the average wattage of every appliance is. When the power goes out in the winter I use my propane fireplace and fans to move the heat around.

One winter we had a freak storm that produced lightning. We got struck and killed the well pump. I had to dig out 3 feet of snow around the well and make several paths so they could replace the pump. I had brown snow in the front yard for almost 2 weeks.

You can always tell the boss that the propane generator is on the fritz. I doubt he would run up from Florida to check to see if you’re being truthful. I can provide you a hall pass from DiO The Generator Guy if you wish. ;):)

For the one more year when it would come up, when he's in Florida I'll be in AZ so couldn't use that excuse but my conscience wouldn't allow me to try to pull one over on him anyway for the times it happens in Maine. Appreciate the offer, though. :)

One more year... or so you say. Is that weaning going any better? ;):)

Do you have a generator in AZ? I hear those dust storms can be quite harmful. :)

It's going great for me and I really should have said one more winter since it's a lot less than a year now.

No generator in AZ that I'm aware of as I'm in a condo now that I've moved up to Scottsdale. I may be able to use that excuse after all. ;)
