Does Anyone Else Think That ‘Fair Extension’ Could Be A Fully Fledged Novel?

I’m reading ‘Full Dark No Stars’ at the moment, and I’ve just completed ‘Fair Extension’

I’m not a fan of short-short stories, so when I came across it I thought; oh god, this won’t be for me, but when I got into it I was pleasantly surprised.

It’s a great idea for a novel because it involves tinkering with some of the most powerful and darkest human emotions. Furthermore, most people have fantasised, at one time or another, about turning all of their bad luck into good; whilst simultaneously dumping all the nasty stuff onto an adversary! (or is that just me?!?)

I’d change the title though, to something like;

‘Better The Devil you Know’

I identify with one of the main characters because, like them, I’ve worked in recycling (sorry, trash management) for the last 30 years.

The plot covers the topic of jealousy, which I find fascinating and believe is one of the main reasons for disharmony in most social situations. IMO, finding a genuine solution or coping mechanism for jealousy will be fundamental for the long term survival of the human race.

Maybe SK could address this concept, if he ever does decide to write a much more in depth version of ‘Fair Extension’.

Great fiction authors can often teach us far more about ourselves and human nature than the so-called experts and leaders of our society.

Do you think this story has got the potential to be a fully fledged novel or not?

Regards,
Andy.
