I finally started reading Dr Sleep, (stole it early from under the Christmas tree) and I'm right into it...then wham! Page 214 is followed by page 247..i push through ignoring this little glitch...and it happens again.. page 262 is followed by page 231..AND I wasn't even holding a glass of wine! I'm now on page 289 but too scared to read on incase it jumps again. (I have rang the bookstore and they will order me a replacement) I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else on here?

I have never heard of such a thing - that would be pretty upsetting. Why would the bookstore order a replacement? Do they not have any left in stock?

Bummer...had to look at my copy, but mine looks okay. Have had things like that happen...story called Puck...or Pucker...liked the cover, lay down my cash, get it home, reading along...and about halfway through the story starts again...then in one of Justin Cronin's stories...there was some sort of printing error that went on for five six pages...and I've heard/read about problems like you experienced.

Unfortunately, this is not a really uncommon event when there's a large print run of a book. The first print run of Doctor Sleep was 1.1 million copies!

They have to order a replacement because apparently no one else here buys hard cover books...the one I have was a special order. The upsetting thing is when SK visited here and started signing his own books in this same bookstore...the owner called security...hahahaha small town...
Are you in Australia? I read about that and posted about it on the old SKMB

He was in the Alice Springs Book Store and just popped in to see if they had any of his books. He started signing them and they called security :highly_amused: I wish I had been there - I would have bought one of them

yeah Australia...I was fully devastated when I found out the chick that worked there had no idea who he was....she kept 1 book for herself (because she's such a fan urgh) sold a couple on ebay and auctioned one off to a cause (I cant remember which one). I was totally mad at her.

Had to wait for my wife to finish Doctor Sleep, But it was worth the wait. An avid fan since Carrie, i feel that this is one of his best works. (I am up to page393.)
However, being what most people refer to as a gun nut, there are a couple of points I'd like to raise:
1. (And this may be a character mistake) On page 336 Billy refers to his pistol as a "One-nine-one-one Colt. Full auto." The 1911 Colt is usually referred to as a "Nineteen eleven" and is a single action semi automatic.
2. On page 353 and others, and this could be a publisher's error, a pistol is called a Glock .22. As far as I am aware Glock do not make a .22 calibre pistol, which would be an ineffective combat weapon. The pistol in question would probably be a Glock 22 (No decimal point), a .40 S&W calibre weapon.
3. On page 354, Dan is said to "flick off the Glock safety with his thumb." Glocks do not have a safety lever. The safety is internal and is deactivated by trigger pressure.

I hope I have not been too pedantic for my first post. I look forward to finishing the book (and probably rereading it.)

Welcome to the boards! Glad you and your wife enjoy the same books, but sorry you had to wait.

You are not the first to notice these "gun-nut" inaccuracies. The common answer is that on SK's level of the tower these exist! :topsy_turvy:

Well - it finally happened! The new board now has its first official "Glocks do not have safeties" post
Doesn't a member on here have it as their signature "I dream of a world where Glocks have safeties"? :peaceful:

There are plenty of inaccuracies, but you just shrug em off and don't worry em; the story is still there.

I think in Full Dark No Stars there was a reference to a 379 Peterbilt cabover. No such thing, and it stuck out like a sore thumb to me, but I brushed it off and enjoyed the story (Big Driver I think?).

I really liked Big Driver - it was quite scary because it seemed so real (compared to things like vampires) - there are really sick guys like that out there and it's quite chilling

Totally agree with you Neesy, really loved Big Driver too. Thought it was a great story in a sense it was real and could happen, which made it even more scary. Another good story was 1922. That was believable too. It it was a good story about a family in trouble and a little gruesome.
