Ok, so....the new doctor. I really want to like her. When I saw the clip of her running in the hoodie I had hope. Then they released the clown costume Jodie Doctor and I’m not so excited.

BUT

Many new doctors are always checking if they are a ginger, and disappointed they are not. At least one grabbed his (non-existent) breasts and was disappointed. If Jodie grabs, I will have hope.

I’m still really disappointed in the poor writing for Capaldi.

Re Hartnell part
Just my take/ I think it was meant more as showing how things are supposed to be PC- politically correct in these times as opposed to Hartnell's.

Solider--
nice research as that was a true fact of that war- time and place and actually happened

Not sure how I feel about the new Doctor-- will give it an episode or two, but have qualms.

Can’t edit.

Hartnell

There are fans that love all the doctors. Rewriting him to be sexist is not OK. That others were is one thing....but he was not. He dealt with women who were leaders. And he never sent his female companions to do the cleaning. The ONLY reason they made him such a disgusting character was to introduce THE FIRST WOMAN DOCTOR. And if that’s what they feel is necessary to introduce her, I don’t imagine I’m going to enjoy the writing.

Soldier

Not really much research required. There was a beautiful commercial in England about it last year. Pretty common knowledge these days.

I quite liked the Christmas episode. It has a nice old school feel. Actually the season 10 episodes Empress of Mars and The Eaters of Light also had a bit of an old school feel.
As horrible a character as David Bradley is on Game of Thrones, so likeable he is here as the First, the Original Doctor - the part where he reprimands Bill on her language is the funniest bit.
I only have seen the first three stories with Hartnell which are in the boxset The Beginning, but it's enough to appreciate how close Bradley's performance is. Even the clock that is in the Tardis in those early episodes looks identical.

The war part reminded me of the Paul McCartney music video for Pipes of Peace (I always loved that song), maybe it was based on the same event.

Too bad it's now gonna be a long wait til Autumn after we're teased just a tiny bit with Whitaker's take on the role in the last minutes. The new Doctor will be falling down for a long, long time until the next season.

I didn't much like the Christmas Special :( My two favorite Christmas Specials are The Christmas Invasion (David Tennant's first story) and The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe with Matt Smith.

My favourite is The Snowmen. Nice that Clara was back in Twice Upon a Time, although shortly.
I wonder if we'll ever see the Paternoster Gang back, it's one of the best things about Dr. Who. Too bad they still don't have a spin-off series, Moffat has said he was too busy for that, but surely there are other writers/showrunners who could do it.

Why was my first post after Christmas deleted? I can understand spoilers but not sure why it was deleted.

I loved the reprimanding on how she speaks. And I think he did a great job of playing Hartnell's Doctor. But I cannot get past the completely out of character comments.

It feels to me like it's going to be all about #MeToo and women's rights. I can get that from the news and Handmaids Tale.

The one that got deleted appeared to be basically the same as #367. You'd said you couldn't edit so you re-wrote it. If you want the original back, it's no problem.

A spin-off series featuring the Paternoster Gang would be fabulous! Was it under consideration at one time? Strax cracks me up :)

Note to anyone who hasn't watched The Snowmen... This clip is from the beginning of the story so it doesn't really spoil anything.

No, I was more concerned that I had posted something so bad it needed deleting, in which case I want to know so I don’t do it again.

My mind has been wandering a lot lately.

It's a bit confusing, since there apparently were things deleted.
Like I said, I only know the First Doctor from those first three stories, so that's clearly not enough to know him well. So anything that would be out of character I wouldn't notice.

It was never really seriously under consideration I get the impression. I only remember that one comment Moffat gave about him being too busy for it.

But here he says he's hesitant to bring them back, even if the BBC lets him do a spin-off:

About The Paternoster Gang. Is A Spin-Off For Them Likely To Happen? | moviepilot.com

I don't know with a new showrunner if that could change. I suppose it always can.

I thought Richard Hurndall portrayed the first doctor beautifully in the story The Five Doctors. He was a bit condescending like the first doctor but he wasn't overly sexist.

I didn't think David Bradley pulled off the role as well, which was probably the fault of the writers and the director. Is he the same David Bradley who played Setrakion in The Strain? He didn't look like him :umm:

Thanks for the link :) We watched K9 and Company this weekend. I guess it was the pilot for a spin-off that never evolved. I loved The Sarah Jane Adventures. The stories really were adventures... with lots of no-goodnick aliens :)

I also watched the first couple seasons of Torchwwood. I liked it until the storylines changed from finding and destroying aliens to love stories.

Being sexist had no advantage previously...so they wrote him truer to character.

Known for: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and The Strain.

He is and Walder Frey as well. He has a beard as Sertrakian - great character also.

He was also Solomon in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. It's always funny you can have one actor play multiple characters in the same series, but this happened regularly on Dr. Who.
