Now this one was classic SK! I just love when he pits townsfolk against one another. I have to admit I was expecting just a bit more from the ending, but the telling of the story was hilarious and just bizarre enough to keep you turning the pages. Loved it!
Definitely a good one. I like neighbor competition as well.

Great story! I was also very pleased to see that Andy Clutterbuck had made "Chief"! It's one of my favourite things when King refers to past places/characters.

I found this to be a good, old-fashioned story American story about wanting to win and being held down by someone with more power than you. I thought it was a solid story. It's really a story holding a mirror up to our modern, obsessive, must-win-at-all-costs culture.

Excuse me for not reading all of the comments first, but just had to post that I LOVED this! It was so different, and I was actually smiling and laughing while reading it! It was good.
I was expecting a darker ending, it was alluded to, but King kept it light, which still worked. It seemed like he was tempted to go for the dark twist, then decided to stick with the original flow, which was a good call.
But of course it was. Geez, the man is a freaking WIZARD! Hmm, wizard of words. I like it. But I digress. Mentioning Toronto, my city, and Chester's Mill was also neat. I didn't hear the audio, but I imagined Alden & the west siders with East Coast accents, which I love. My best friend and the nicest guy I know, nicest guy I've ever met in my life, come to think of it, is an East Coaster from PEI. Alright, reading the comments now. :)

Um, wow, I suck at geography. He's not from PEI, he's from New Brunswick. Some small town on the coast of New Brunswick which is also a province. Geez, I'm terrible. I thought PEI was the province for some reason. I even went there to visit in New Brunswick. It was beautiful. There were jellyfish, I mean, they were all dead and washed up on the beach but still, first time I ever saw real jellyfish, dead or alive. It's 5am here, I couldn't stop reading and now I'm really tired, LOL. The story just reminded me of those accents you hear out there.
