I'm almost finished reading Dr. Sleep, and as a whole the book was pretty good, I just did not enjoy that Abra and Dan were related. It would have been awesome If they were totally random people who have to get the trust of Abras parents to solidify their doubts about Dan, but I feel like making Abra related to them just messed up The Shining for me and made an easy escape for the writing of the novel to be done. Just personal opinion. Anyone else feel the same?

I felt somewhat the same. I was about halfway through reading Dr Sleep when I decided I'd like the novel better if I pretended it wasn't a sequel and the Dan in Dr Sleep was just a character with the same name as the character in The Shining. The Shining is my all time favorite horror novel :)

I agree. Early on there are subtle things that allude to them being related, but it just felt so unnecessary to the story once it’s revealed. Maybe it would have been better if one of the True Knot was revealed to be related to him instead.
