Oh wow. Sundrop lives on Grandfather? Ever run into Charles Frazier? I was getting a book signed by him when he noticed my T shirt said Grandfather Mountain and he said that's where he lived.

Wait wait. What? Now the second post which had my actual response is gone! What's going on? Okay I'm going to attempt the recreation of it. No telling what will happen this time so stand behind a barricade wearing protective clothing.

What I said was that the person in the pic is ME and not Charles Frazier who is older and balder and more gray and also way more brilliant as he wrote the novel "Cold Mountain". He lives there in the nearby town somewhere. I mentioned staying at the Pixie motel, which I would be surprised if it were still in business as it was in rather poor repair, but ate a wonderful breakfast with my wife at the restaurant just across from it (lovely place with a hunters lodge feel) and then bought her a ring at the next door Scottish store. I also mentioned Mildred the bear at the zoo atop Grandfather who is likely dead now as they only live some twenty years and she was old and fat then. I rather liked Mildred and I don't like many bears.

Anyway, a strange series of events in trying to post this.

No wonder the guy in the photo looks so familiar......I've seen photos of you!!! ;;D
The Pixie motel was still in business about 5 years ago. I haven't been over that far in some time. Was the restaurant maybe the Tartan?
I remember feeding Mildred the bear marshmallows when I was a kid. She died many years ago, but some of her grandchildren are still there.

I figured that's what happened, Dana Jean. "It seems we were working at cross purposes". A cookie if you can tell me who said that.

And...

This is good to hear. I like that it's still around. Fond memories there. And YES that was the restaurant! Good food. Nice fireplace in the winter. I hate Mildred died but I knew it had to be. At least the blood lives on. This little town and the mountain was something the wife and I just stumbled on as we explored the Blue Ridge and I've always wanted to go back to do the trails while they were thawed. They won't let you when they are icy. You are so lucky to live there Sundrop!

Here is a shot of Mildred for old times sake-
