The Shining. So many reasons. It was published in January 1977 which is when I was born. I recently stayed the night at The Stanley Hotel where King got the inspiration. It has potential to be in 'classic' territory next to Shirley Jackson and Poe. It gave me nightmares (almost as much as Pet Sematary and The Dark Half). Finally, because of room 217 and the elevator scene
where Jack and Wendy and Danny are awakened by noises down the hallway. Party noises. Wendy climbs into the elevator and tosses confetti and sequined mask on the carpet. "Does this look like a short circuit?!" Very memorable.

I picked 'Salem's Lot as it was my first excursion into the mind of Stephen King (to this day it's still in the number one position for me) and Night Shift because it showcased that, even at such a young age, the man had such breadth in his writing abilities. I don't think any of those tales in Night Shift ever left my memory- you can say a title to me and I can tell you exactly what happens in each of them and probably even name most of the characters. Not so with some later stories, unfortunately. Maybe it's because I had never really read anything like them before and they left such an impression on my young mind?

:encouragement: Does this mean he can collect a pension? Do you guys do that down there? Up here you can start getting your Canada Pension Plan at age 65 (well they are gradually changing it to 67, but I got in just under the wire for eligibility in the future).

He's probably already getting Social Security and is on Medicare, although I suspect he has an additional health care plan to supplement it.

I want to take my pension at 60 - you get a penalty but I think I would rather have it five years early and enjoy it while I am still in good health! :m_taichi:
