My favourite was the one where some lothario gave his lady a little furry brooch and when she eventually spurned his advances he left, and the furry brooch turned into some giant rat-like thing. That could've been Night Gallery now that I am recalling it. Imagine if Rod read one of Sai King's books for the audio series? That would be great!

I like some of the episodes mentioned. I like the Talky Tina doll episode and the lesser-known Shatner episode where he plays a man in a diner who becomes infatuated with a fortune-telling machine at his booth. One of my favorite chill bumps episodes is called "Night Call" about an old woman who is bombarded with mysterious phone calls all day and night and
after asking the operator where the calls are originating, she discovers they're coming from a fallen wire in a cemetery. The wire is laying on her husband's grave.
I love the Shatner episode in the diner, too. That is definitely a favorite. And Time Enough at Last, of course. I love a lot of them. The one with the old man and his dog...been a while since I've seen that one but remember it got me in the feelers. :)

I love so many of the episodes, they're all good in they're own right. If I had to pick one that scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid it would be "Will The Real Martian Please Stand Up?" Every time I saw the episode as a kid I was wide eyed and glued to the edge of my seat. Rod Serling came up with such a good show in The Twilight Zone.
Other favorite episode would be "A Stop At Willoughby". Not as much as it was scary, but it was just plain weird and left me saying....

The one with the old man and his dog? I don't know that one. You know the title?

That's night gallery. -- A Feast of Blood is the title of the episode.

Time Enough At Last is probably my favorite too but really I just love them all so much. Little Girl Lost is another favorite and it inspired Poltergeist (one of my all-time favorite horror movies).

We have a local theater here that does live productions of TZ episodes but I sadly can't go anymore because there was some drama with the local theater community and they were on the wrong side of it. Many close friends were hurt by their behavior and I just can't support that.

Thanks Dana Jean! I remember seeing it in black and white on our old TV. I'll have to snoop around and see if that old series is available. Except for watching it in my youth, all I've ever seen on the racks is a Night Gallery movie with three stories within. I think Spielberg directed one of them.

Yes, they are still available. I actually have that episode on my DVR as we speak, so they are out there because I recorded it not that long ago.

That was a masterpiece for its time. The short story is good, too.

...the writing, staging and acting all made the series what it was....but I will maintain to my dying day-the real genius was Rod Serling.....and his voice.....one of my broadcast heroes.....

When I met Michael Berryman of "The HIlls Have Eyes" he spoke of meeting him in a store and his brother doing the dee dee dee dee thing and it chasing him off but he ran outside and apologized for his brother and told him of how much he liked an episode. Rod asked what he liked about it and it turned into a twenty minute conversation in the back of his car. Pretty cool of Rod to accommodate a fan like that.

I was so mad when Night Gallery ended I pitched a fit screaming at the TV. YOU IDIOTS! HOW COULD YOU END THE BEST SHOW ON TV? Some stupid ESP crap came on in it's place and although I might have watched it otherwise I hated it and refused. We lost Rod too soon. I have all the Twilight Zones and Night Galleries on DVD though. He made stuff great. And that music for Night Gallery... ohgod it struck fear in me just to hear it. Great show.

But my favorite Twilight Zone was called "The Teacher" I think. It was based on the story "It's a Good Life" by Jerome Bixby which I had already read in The Science Fiction Hall of Fame anthology but didn't realize till right at the end. Pretty cool how they revised it for the movie too with the different and more hopeful ending.
