Yay!!! I had to come talk to my peeps about it!! I know I started a thread somewhere a gazillion years ago about wishing for this movie... My followed/watched threads have disappeared since I was here last (haven't been around in a while)...
Here's an article in case someone hasn't seen/heard it yet!
Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game film is happening at Netflix · Newswire · The A.V. Club
*So* excited!! :triumphant::glee: ~insert running around excited emoticon here~
I've enjoyed much of Netflix productions, I hope they don't blow it!!! What do yous guyses think?
Peace,
Holly
Apologies if I made work for the Mods... I didn't see any threads under the 'TV & Made-for-TV Movies>Gerald's Game' - I must need to make some adjustment to my view of the new (to me) forum....

In the previous thread I participated in from years ago, we also discussed movies some of us had seen that were sort of the same concept, which I thought further readied the climate for this story to be made into a movie... A couple of those were:
"Stuck" (2007) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758786
"Wrecked" (2010) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1316622

I actually accidentally watched another Michael Flanagan movie just last night. It's called "Absentia", and it was decent. I liked "Oculus" as well. I think I'm going to have a look-up of him over at the IMDB to see if it bolsters my confidence in the movie production of "Gerald's Game". I'm always on the lookout for new good thrillers to watch.

Long days & pleasant nights!

Rewatched the film. It holds up well. Flanagan is one of the directors who understands SK's voice very well, and even though he clearly has his own voice, his care for the original work always shines through.

One thing I wondered about. SK often writes about the characters owning summer houses, like Jessie and Gerald do. But in reality is it normal in Maine for people to OWN special summer houses where they go to during the summer?
Because there's also talk of cleaners coming in when the Burlingames are away, which sounds more like it would be a rented place.

You can find endless sites of vacation rentals in Maine. So I suppose it's only the more rich people who can afford to own these houses, like some of the characters in some books, who were famous writers for example. And the Burlingames were rich too, because they could afford 200 dollar steak and Gerald was a successful lawyer. So they must have owned their vacation house and had it cared for in their absence.

You should watch a show called "Maine Cabin Builders" - oops - it's actually Maine Cabin Masters :facepalm_smiley:

it's really good - they say the state of Maine has the nickname of "Vacationland"

- some of these cabins are not that fancy whereas others are quite luxurious.

From watching the show I would have to call the area a paradise.

(But then again I like roughing it and camping, so a place without electricity or running water would suit me fine) - as long as there is a pump to get water out of and an old fashioned outhouse I would be okay. Guess you would need to bring your own ice for the ice box I suppose.
