It's gonna be directed by Mike Flanagan, director of Oculus. I haven't seen Oculus yet, but heard mostly very positive things about it.

When they film one of your favoutites, chances are you're gonna love it when they take an approach that fits with your own perception of the book or you're gonna totally hate it. So I'm prepared to be disappointed if it's not what I'd like to see.
I can't wait to see who they cast as Jessie though and what visual and dramatic approach they take when it's mostly someone alone in a room with very little interaction with other characters. There's lots of flashbacks obviously, but the main action is very, very limited.

I also hope this isn't one of those that gets cancelled as we had with a lot of them in recent years or gets shelved like Mercy.

But who are they gonna cast as the dog? Seriously, it's going to be tough one to film. I just hope they don't cast Angelina Jolie as Jesse. Not a 'big name' director so it won't be Jennifer Lawrence in the lead either. I really hope they keep the big creepy factor with the 'tall guy'!!!
Nowadays Stephen King projects demand big name actors. Still, they might not cast a well known actress for the part, but I wouldn't be surprised to find a major player or two involved. They might include a couple of extra characters not found in the original.

This guy named Gerald is more excited about his "game" than I am:

Not if Steve has anything to do with it. :smile2: He's already had those types of proposals (and others) for an adaptation before which is why the film rights haven't been sold until now.

Oh God, please no! It's the exact opposite of 'torture porn' (I always thought this was a strange term, even though I'm not a particular fan of the subgenre).

Wow, how movieproducers THINK! They probably hadn't read the book when they wanted to buy it, only shortly looked at the synopsis. This is why films can disappoint so often, they try to bend something to a trend rather than look at the book itself and the best way to adapt it.

The time to edit is so short... I often have these new thoughts coming after a post...

I was thinking about how good Dolores Claiborne was. Even though it was a sort of expansion, it also included the events of the book.
Jennifer Jason Leigh would be a great Jessie in my opinion, she's the calibre actress that can pull such a role off and also seems someone who might be attracted to the role (as it is an unusual challenge) and to the subject matter.

Too bad we probably won't have a connection between the two films as the books had. But in general we miss a lot of the connections and references between books in the films, as it is probably hard to do with rights belonging to different studios.

If Jennifer takes the role, I'll offer myself up to massage her wrists in between takes. :)

Oculus is very good, so I hope Gerald's Game will be also good. I can't imagine how they can make a movie out of this story, but I am rather curious to see what comes out of it.
I'm amazed at the talent some filmmakers have to imagine how to put a given story on the screen. I know just what you mean, Lina. But I've become convinced that just about any novel can be made into a good movie, and each time without necessarily becoming very unfaithful to the original story.
