Funny enough, the whole father-daughter-on-the-run plot kind lends itself to a TV series structure.

It is very possible the name McGee is a nod to Jack McGee.

In the tv-series David Banner was always on the run too in a similar way. Probably SK watched the series around the same time he wrote the book.
Taking the name Banner would be too obvious as it's the main character and so well-known, so that's why he might have gone with McGee instead.

I think the secret to all of these projects is a collaborative effort from writers and artists who aren't in it solely for profit. Sure, producers want to make a profit, but the bigger picture must be the integrity of the story. David Benioff (and that other guy I can't remember, lol), the writers of the Game of Thrones show, are first and foremost fans, then artistic collaborators, then businessmen. I think when the directors and writers are part of the fandom then the process (from conception to execution) flows naturally. The fire and soul of the project shows up on screen.

D.B. Weiss.

I agree. IF they are talented fans and have a certain amount of objectivity. You must not be blinded by your love for the material, but be able to judge whch elements will work on the screen and are essential to the core and spirit of the work, and which won't work and are best discarded for a visual adaptation.

I am for a remake of Firestarter. The original is certainly no classic and is dated in certain aspects both acting and technical. It's be more than 20 years since the original so good time to introduce a new generation to Charlie McGee.

I'd go for a remake, too. The story is WAY better after recent reread and it deserves a decent remake.
