I think I may have stumbled on a first edition copy of IT.

I tried to copy and paste the IT information but my tablet was wiggin' out.
....the copy I have actually states "First Edition" or words to that effect on the inside......
I have two infront of me. I bought this new one cause the cover for the one I already owned was in shreds. So, the old one I has says tenth printing but the new (which I got) doesn't say anything.
So it's a first edition but a 10th printing, which for serious collectors is not a good thing (unless you're a 'completist' and have to have every single printing of each book). Hey, no one is going to know what printing it is sitting there on your shelf anyway.

Also, not a completionist at that level but be nice to know and all.
Is there a price listed inside the front flap of the dust jacket? It should have $22.95. Also, on the copy right page beneath where it says 'Copyright 1986 All Rights Reserved' it should also say 'First published in 1986 by Viking Penguin Inc.' If it says this then it is a first printing.

I know first edition and first printing are different and all.
If all it says is 'First Published in 1986' without any other numbers or words (such as Tenth Printing) following that then it is a true first printing/first edition. That is how Viking does their printing history. Other publishers use different methods. It's confusing at times.

I have the British printing. A bunch of words are misspelled and all of the "Mr. and Mrs." are missing their periods.
Also make sure the paste down pages (the paper glued to the boards and the first free page) are grey in color. If so, it is definitely a 1st.

This was a concern I had when purchasing first editions and what I was telling kingricefan.
I hate it when I miss periods........
