Finally saw 1922 it was very good. Creepy too, just like the novella in Full Dark No Stars. There were shocking scenes. :wha:

1922 was one of the best stories in the book and I thought at the time this would make a really good movie and it did.
I watched it last night. Solid movie. Thomas Jane looked like Tom Hardy I thought and sounded like him too.

I watched 1922 tonight and was very impressed with the film. Thomas Jane did an excellent job. skimom2 and morgan, I had to turn on the subtitles due to Jane’s accent! From what Dana Jean posted (2017 Horror Movie Marathon Thread), he did a good job with it, but I had real trouble understanding him. I thought the screenplay was well-written, and thoroughly enjoyed the effects and story.

Agreed. For once the writer was thoughtful about what had to be cut to make it run to length. It was definitely one of the most true to the story adaptations that I've seen.

I thought he was Keith Carradine at first in the trailer :p! He did do Hardy's mumblespeak from Lawless! I kept thinking, "Who in the heck does he sound like?! This reminds me of some movie I've seen." You hit it on the nose, Ghost!

What accent? Southern? I need to see this like right now.

Watched this Friday and I was impressed. I challenge anyone to find a better SK book to film adaption. The script at some points was literally word for word from the book. I only have one issue with this and it was the end (will touch on that later) and I honestly cant believe it hasn't been mentioned yet.
Lets start with the good, and there was alot. Like 99.9% alot. Thomas Jane was PERFECT. One of, if not his absolute best performance ever. He completely captured Wilf and the felling of the 20's. In fact the entire movie was cast perfect in my opinion. This director and casting crew need to tackle as many SK projects as possible!! There was obvious loyalty to source material like I have never seen in a movie. It was shot beautifully and the score was such a surprise, and it was done by Mike Patton. Mike is a debatable musical genius and his work with Faith no more and Mr. Bungle is proof.
The small things that changed and very little that was left out was quite appropriate for the screen adaption. But I have to say, the director and writers obviously read the book and paid attention to DETAILS. So many instances when I was watching the movie I thought to myself, that is EXACTLY how I envisioned that. Especially when
He has to go identify his sons body, the missing nose and the way he looked was very accurate to the way it was written.

I can not recommend this movie enough. Now onto my biggest and only complaint...
Why did they end the movie without the newspaper article!!???!?!?!? I was waiting and waiting for it and nothing!! I don't understand this decision especially for how close they followed the book. For me this changes the whole dynamic of the story, from a true ghost story to a man gone insane by his actions and guilt story!! I feel like its such a huge part of understanding the entire story the I have no idea why it was omitted. There could of been so many ways this could of been added. When It was all over I said to myself, this was literally the best SK adaption ever EXCEPT THAT. ugh.

I would like to hear anyone else's opinion on the movie and thoughts on the above spoiler and ending.

Yes, his accent was a little mumbly, couldn't understand what he said at times or place the accent, but it added to the character. I liked his performance in The Mist (the movie) as well, he should act in more SK adaptations.

I thought the movie was great. My only gripe would be the soft ending. Thought it stuck with the book too.

Had to pull out my copy of the book to remember the ending of 1922. I think the book ending would have been too sedate. The movie ending suggested the book ending.

Aside: I was racking my brain to remember one of the short stories in the book, couldn't remember the title Fair Extention. Maybe it didn't have much of an impact on me as the other stories like 1922 which stood out immensely. As soon as I knew the title Fair Extention; the story came rushing back to me.

Now I'm trying to remember.
