If as stated Pete has researched the robbery in his library job, he should know the killer's name, that he has been convicted and sentenced and therefore he may also know his release date.
However, the last para on pg 96 states Pete knows none of this and can only speculate the killer is in prison somewhere or he is dead.
This appears to be a flaw in the plot.
PS: the last time I commented similarly on an aspect of Mr Mercedes, it turned out I was reading a book distributed here in New Zealand by the UK publisher Hodder and Stoughton and the error had been corrected in the US version. I sincerely hope the same has not happened again!

But Rothstein's killer wasn't convicted for the murder, he went to jail on a totally unrelated charge, so, how would Pete make that connection? (Unless I missed/can't remember something?)

As Mr Ricker might have said: 'This is stupid!' I was stupid. I apologise to everyone. I had a senior moment or maybe it's the air down here, too much ozone. Anyway, I am enjoying the book. Fascinating plot so far.
