Ooooh, I loved those. The Dollanganger series anyway. I read them in 7th/8th grade - so shortly after they were published. And My Sweet Audrina -which I can't really remember, but I read it. And then the Heaven series (Casteel?). That was mostly written by the ghost writer because VC Andrews passed away. My sister is still reading the later series. Heaven was meh compared to the first series, in my opinion. How in the world was that 35 years ago?
I never got through the Heaven series, agree, very Meh!

Last year I saw a picture of a young woman I know with her brother, whom I had never met. They are blond and both so beautiful. (I know that's not a word you usually use for a young man.)

Anyway, I'm looking at this picture and I said "Are you sure your names aren't Cathy and Chris?" <She looks at me oddly> "You look like the Dollangangers." <She continues looking at me oddly.>

I told her they were characters in a book....and told her to ask her mother. She did tell her mom what I said, and her mom laughed. So she asked her whether I had insulted her or complimented her. Lol. (Complimented....her mom knew I was talking about how absolutely beautiful her children are.)

I rewqtched the first adaptation from 1987 last night, for the first time in years, yes, talk about rushed and silly. No character build-up. no time to see into the mother's true motives, they hardly read or play or do anything in the attic in the film, and the ending is nuts. Am going to watch the other version, 2014 for a comparison, I am a huge fan of Ellen Burstyn, who plays the grandmother. Imagine writing these books now...the premise of the attic would be different, and their hobbies different. A very strange tale, indeed. It was a strangely dark film, and not without its endearments, such as being lushly filmed, having a great score and the cast doing their very best with the material at hand.

They are so old hat now, but still juicy and good. I find as I get older, I like the printed word less and the visual screen experience more...how sad is that. But I love the Flowers in the Attic saga. Cruel, tragic story.

I still love the feel of a book in my hands, but life is so busy...Audible is my 'reading' tool of choice these days.

I have in all my forty six years never listened to an audio book. Just does not appeal to me. I love music in the car, books or movies at home. Also love the feel of a book in my hands, especially a pre-loved one. Life is too busy but we just have to make or find time. Working full time sucks...just not enough quality free time!! Hence I enjoy staying up half the night.

I once. tried listening to an audio book and fell asleep. I like words on a page or a kindle.

I'm reading Flowers in the Attic this week. I read the second book Petals on the Wind 5 years ago because the bookstore didn't have the first novel. When I was in high school my friend Christina was reading FITA while we were volunteering at a conference and I remember she couldn't put it down.
