I'd be happy with another team getting a chance in the AFC East. :)
I think next year will be good for that. As good as the Pats are at adjusting, losing that many assistant coaches who are that embedded in the "system" is going to be hard to replace with three newcomers. I keep hoping J. McDaniel and M. Patricia will decide they like being part of a great system and decide to remain Sith Apprentices for another year...lol

It's really been an amazing run for the Pats. In the last 17 years, they've won 11 games or more 14 times. The other 3 years, they were 10-6 twice and 9-7 once. They've been to the playoffs 15 times (one of the years they didn't make it, they were 11-5), the conference championship 12 times and the super bowl 8 times. They're right there with the great runs of the Yankees, Celtics and Canadians.

Most definitely. I used to think the 49'ers dominance in the 80's would be something I'd never witness the rest of my life but I stand corrected for sure. What sets the Pats apart from most of the other dynasty runs I've witnessed, 49'ers, Cowboys, etc is that the names keep changing but the Pats keep winning. Brady is a constant but seriously, how many different running backs and wide receivers have passed thru New England during the last 17 years? It's fascinating if you like to study the X's and O's of football how they've been able to accomplish that kind of run with so many players coming and going.

If they win it all this year, if I'm Brady and Belichick I'm riding off into the sunset as the most dominating coach/QB combo in NFL history. Next year they will most likely be losing 3 assistant coaches and that will make it tough to remain competitive, although if anyone can do it, Belichick can. But, you've done everything you can ever possibly want to do as far as solidifying your legacy so why not ride out into the sunset on top of your game, ya' know?

The only recent example of an athlete leaving while at the top of their game I can think of is David Ortiz. Most pro-athletes hang on a little too long (hello, Brett Favre....)

I don't see either leaving for a while.

Cleveland got rid of Belichick just in time. ;-D

LOL, you're definitely correct about Favre...talk about hind sight is 20-20? Should have just stayed retired in Mississippi, Bret, and you would've never had to buy a drink in Wisconsin for the rest of your life..lol

I think Elway and P. Manning did it correctly also. Good timing on both of them stepping out from player status. I have a feeling we might see P. Manning in the front office or, if we're lucky, on the sidelines coaching someday.

Has it really been 17 years since Belichick screwed over the Jets as head coach after they built a team around him? Seems like only yesterday.

That was really bizarre. I remember one day there was a press conference with him accepting the job and the next day there was another press conference with him resigning.

And the Jets also lost Charlie Weiss in that when he sided with Belichick against Parcells, in the hearings... hoping for a better deal. Betrayal all around to the 10th degree. Belichick should have had to sit for a year and not coach, as his contract with the Jets dictated, if he left. Parcells would have played it that way if given the chance.

The conspiracy theories about the referees are kind of funny, but seriously one penalty! Also, I think it was last year in the AFC Championship game they also had one penalty. That is just unheard of if you've ever played football a total of 2 Flags in two championship games, that lends weight to the theorists claims that the NFL wants the Pats in the Super Bowl..

Please. Like Parcells didn't f-over NE when he left. Leak to the media that you are resigning right before the Super Bowl? Weak.

The wife said she’s going to root for the Patriots in the Super Bowl, even with knowing how much I loathe them. Obviously the honeymoon’s over . She can’t stand Eagles fans and only tolerates the family members who are. As we’re going to have friends and families over for the game, we’ve decided the living room with the big screen TV will be Patriots territory and the rec room with the other big TV will be Eagles territory. The karaoke room/bar will be designated neutral territory and the game will not be shown.

Kraft was as much to blame as Parcells in that divorce. And Parcells was going to take an advisory job with the Jets and only become head coach when his contract with New England allowed. Crybaby Kraft protested and the Jets had to send four draft picks to the Patriots in return for Kraft releasing Parcells completely from his contract.
